HELP! water in boot

yes it was the roof drains, I think its still worth clearing them as mine seemed to fill even when it wasn't raining !!! I'd still check them
 
I noticed the exact same issue in my Z yesterday as well!!!

I am not 100% sure what exactly you are referring to with the roof drains? You don't mean the holes at the bottom of the space where the roof motor sits, do you?

My leak seems to come from the light or boot fittings...
 
Was this problem solved? We had some bad weather and yesterday I noticed water on the left side of the boot (again). I still don't know where it can get in. The rear lights seem dry.
 
Hi, I had the same problem last year. It was not the light or the vent. Firstly check to see whether the top of the wheelarch is wet. if so then check and see if the top of the inner wing.(get some one to run a hose whilst you look with a torch. If so then you may have had the same problem I have had. It drove me mad!! However, I did mange to cure it, more by luck I would say.
It appears that the water was some how getting in between the rubber seal of the softop and the body. I bought some silcione grease from RS Components & squeezed it between the seal and the body. Also on the along the seam of the soft topwhere if sits in the drain area. It cured it.

It was murderous trying to get the caprpet and the noise insulation out to be dried, even more trying to get it back in!!


I had to have a new roof motor this summer and was fearing the worst, but it all seems ok, The boot is noce and dry.

ive sealed everything now apart from one torx screw that holds the trunk lid in, things not shifting :headbang: still seems to be some water but ive been busy all week and didnt get a chance to dig further. so tomorrow i finish work at 12 so im moving onto plan C which is getting my hand between the panel to locate the point of entry. hope i find it cos i aint got a plan D :(

i dont have the problem with the softtop roof drains as i have a hardtop so no water can get to those drains. im talking about the channels that run around the boot lid (when you open the boot water from the boot lid runs into the channels)
 
right this time im sure i know where the waters getting in, just had the tail light off and seen some light

right what ive highlighted here is a gap between the trunk lid assembly thats allowing water to run over the top of the tail light housing which then runs in through the vent

i would have expected some sort of gasket between the two pannels but nothing. getting dsperate now guys :headbang: any ideas????
 
IMO you're going to have to separate/disassemble the trunk ( I thought we called a boot :roll: ) lid assembly and seal with something like sikaflex.

Or at least see if you can squeeze some into the gap you've highlighted.
 
Just had a look at mine and it's the same as yours. There is a definite gap especially after the lower torx screw under the gas strut mount. :?
 
its a stupid design then. my cars parked at a slight angle on the drive so i guess its not helping. going to try and lift the bracket today and put a line of sealant underneath.
 
I'm going to solve this over the weekend. I will undo the torx and seal it with silicon kit or something like that. Shouldn't be to hard to get this sorted.
 
looks like ive sorted it :D removed the 3 torx screws (although i had to drill the last one out). used a screwdriver to lift the panel lip and sprayed a good dose of sealant in the gap. screwed it all back down.
with the tail light removed i filled the seam between the plastic panel that runs above the light and the body then put the car back together and gave it a test (after a few hours). NO WATER.

now i can have my boot back :D
 
Sounds exactly what I was going to try. I wasn't going to undo the torx at first but since you did I'll do the same tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well, after thats sorted I'll have a crack at installing the aux in. That should keep me off the street for the better part of the morning :)
 
Well took the time to fix my swimmingpool in the boot :).
I didn't think the problem was with the strip that holds the hinges of the lit. Looking at it its designed to drain water between the bodywork and the inner metal of the boot. So that works like its supposed to. I had the water coming in near the taillight. Removed the taillight and filled it at the top with transparant silicon kit.

In addition also put a tiny bit around the contour of the taillight so when put back it would stick to the metal. And I also put some silicon under the plastic cover that goes arround the lights.

So far it's dry :).
 
I had a wet boot for a while. I simply put a good bead of silicone around the rear light and it all stopped leaking.Nice n easy.
 
aye i guess the gap between the hinge and the car was meant to drain water, just my luck that it ends with water in mine, no problems since filling it in so im happy
 
Condensation seems to be a problem in my boot. Both the upper and lower floor mats are frequently wet in places where water couldn't run on to. The inside of the boot lid is wet with beaded water which I suppose drips down overnight.

Any ideas on why this condensation all of a sudden?

How is the rest of the car? Do your windows fog up quickly when you get into the car and drive off? Could be a general humidity problem. Did you clear your drains, if not perhaps water is building up in your car and condensating.
