Help-Speedo blip :-(

Hi all,i know i am known for being OCD and too panicky etc  ,but i have noticed a couple of times now at different speeds (30mph and 70mph) that the speedo needle will drop or have a blip before returning to the speed i am actually doing, even though my foot is in the same position, tbh i have not done a search because in the couple of years of being on here i have not seen a similar problem  -any thoughts?-thanks

I'm not sure of the speedo mechanics/electronics (never needed to look into it), but my guess would be a minor spike in the signals that feed into it. Probably nothing to worry about, noise on signals is really quite common.

On a 2.0, there is so much empty space and so little metal around to shield the speedo from interference from the sewing machine in the front

Not seen this issue on a modern car though, my Golf is jumping a bit up and down but that speedo is mechanical.

Wow that sounds technical mate, anyone else notce anything about theirs?

It's not complicated. Just electronics replicating what the old mechanical ones used to do. Modern ones are reacting to a pulse signal. If something messes with the pulse, it will show on the speedo, the same with the rev counter. That interference can be anything from interference from an outside source to an iffy connection. Unless it's all over the place, or you're getting other weirdness I'd really not worry about it.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest mate! -just surprised no one has mentioned this before(unless i have missed it)

It happens each time you pass through a wormhole into a parallel dimension.

Next time it happens rush straight home and strip the wife totally naked. I suspect you will discover that any distinguishing birthmarks and/or moles etc. are now on the opposite side of her body to previously....... :o

On Boeing 747 100 and 200 series the HF radios used to make the N1 guages move like VU meters on an old amplifier. Bloody funny :) (The N1 guage is the indicator of the turbine speed as a percentage of max, a bit like a rev counter)
