Help Something is definitely up !!

2008, E85 Z4 2.5si 52K miles. Thursday midday I drove 100 miles down south, towards the end of the journey my engine light came on (solid light) . Pulled over checked for any visible issues, non apparent so i proceeded to my destination.

Got back into the car on Friday and the engine light had gone off so I assumed it was maybe an O2 sensor or something. I then drove a further 150 miles in this beautiful weather we have had, without any issues.

Then today comes around and I begin my journey home. About half way back after refuelling, engine light comes on again, i pull over and don't see any visual signs or smells that something major has gone wrong. However I do notice that there is a distinct lack in power with a slight delay in throttle response. I also experiences a very minor rough idle and difficulty with power in reverse gear.

Something is definitely playing up and i have no idea what it is. One thing i have noticed is the fuel pipe doesn't appear to be seated properly onto the fuel rail. I would greatly appreciate some advice. I plan to take the car into the garage tomorrow, but im worried they are going to start replacing parts to find the problem and rack up a hefty bill.

Many Thanks Will

I'm with those two above! The car is telling you it has an issue, so the best start is to find out what error it is flagging up.

Do you know how old the battery is in your car OP?

Dying batteries do seem to trigger some random electrical issues - around the time my original battery dies at 10 years old I got an amber EML. :?

It was for the post cats on both banks, but a code reset and a new battery fixed that thankfully. Although it got a dose of Cataclean just to make sure.

But you definitely need the codes read anyway - good luck getting it sorted.

Wouldn’t even have continued my journey if mine had come on. Would have called the AA even if it was the middle of the night. Driving with an engine fault of some sort could be catastrophic. Best not driving again till you know what it is. Safer for you, and safer for the old Zed.

Good luck with sorting it tho! Then you can get back to driving :driving:

Give its appearing and then clearing would indicate that whatever it is has an intermittent fault. Probably a sensor etc giving a false reading occasionally, especially if the car seems to run fine when it occurs. Obvious it needs looking at with scanner, the sooner the better really as intermittent usually leads to a full failure of the part concerned
