Help setting up BMW DIS

Hi All

After reading some posts on here, I purchased a cable + software kit from BMCables on ebay.
I got the blue OBD USB cable, and 2 CDs/DVDs containing SSS, DIS, TIS etc.

Everyone seemed to say it is a doddle to setup, and the seller shows it as "1 click install".

So I've worked in IT for about 13 years now, and can I get it working.... no!

I tried it on 2 different laptops, even tried rebuilding windows from scratch on one of them. No joy yet. (Using Win 7 Pro 32 bit.)

I get all the software installed OK, and carry out the prompted reboots between each install.

Everything installs fine, and the cable works and lights up when I plug into the OBD port of the car. But I cannot get the software to talk to the car.

In DIS I get a Diagnostic head communication error.

I thought the software would be preconfigured for the cable etc. I try to follow instructions and manually add a diagnostic head but it wont let me. I try to goto administration, and setup new connection but the button does nothing.

Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? If not i'm going to try and return it all, and put a warning out to others here that it is not as simple as they make out to use.

Thanks in advance

Dan

Did you switch the ignition on (battery light should be on)

I'm basically in the same boat as you.

BMW need to have a look at the Audi VCDS system, far easier to use.

The BMW one is a shambles (imo).

Mind you, maybe I was using the VCDS on the Zed... :poke:

Bmw software it's much simpler to use than vagcom. Only because you don't know how, doesn't mean it's hard.

Hi,

I have recently purchased the same software and
lead from BM technic.
After loading all the one click program's I tried to
connect to the obd port but it wouldn't connect.
I contacted Chris @ bm technic and it turned out
to be an issue with drivers.
I would contact Chris as that will be the quickest
way of sorting it out.
The software is spot on and is quite easy to use once
your connected.
I've managed to sort/change several things including
clearing my airbag light

Was this Windows XP or 7?

So I had this exact problem and was about to throw in the towel. I took the cable apart and you'll find two pins are linked by a solder joint.

The complete shagwit who made it doesn't use a bridge wire, just an effin great blob of solder and mine was a dry joint. In fact it was so bad I flicked it with my finger and it fell off. One bridge wire later and everything worked perfectly.

Worth a check I think.

Thanks chaps.

Will have another go tomorrow if I get time.

There is a sticker on the cable saying tested as working. But I guess it may not have been, or it could have been knocked in transit?

Will post results soon

Dan

Silver sticker? Load of bollox.

I wouldn't buy from this lot ever again. Got the complete "feck off, not interested" when I contacted them about it.
