i bought one last week and now i have been told that the ignition key should not come out in any position other than park/neutral, is this correct, i need to know as i have taken it back as the alarm goes off all day and night, not sure if the two are connected in some way, thanks...............my key comes out in drive or reverse!!

Welcome to the forum and zed ownership...

Ive never tried to remove the key while engine running? You manual or auto thoguh?

Alarm could be the bonnet sensor - do a search, fairly simple fix if its that

Hi, sorry i didn't mean while the engine was running, this started as my alarm was going off all the time, went back to the stealer and he said i had to park it in reverse{its an auto} the handbook says neutral, so do BMW, however i wanted facts for the stealer as he tells me allsorts like standing on one leg with my foot in a bowl of custard etc will stop the alarm, i had a message from a guy who makes the diagnostic kit for BMW, he said the key should NEVER come out other than in Neutral as it locks the brakes, plus mine makes a series of beeps when i stop in Neutral, not in reverse or drive though, is that the norm too? The diagnostic guys said it could be the management system at fault, any views or ideas please

In my old E46 330cd you could only remove the key once you put it into park, it should not come out in neutral. I once call BMW emergency services saying the key was stuck in the ignition, the lady on the phone says is you car an automatic, which i reply yes, she then says have a look down sir and tell me if you have selected park, this is the part when i made my excuses and said i had to go

That phrase should sound very polite and proper but is completely condescending in instances like this :D
