Update:

New battery required £216.94 for the battery, installation and registration.

Software update £180.

Car wouldn't show faults due to the battery being too far gone.

God knows what else they'll find once the new battery is installed.

I know garages have to make a profit but almost £400 for a battery (mine cost me £102.34 delivered) and registration/software update really takes the piss, probably less than an hours labour

Thats why I said find a good indie, take your own battery (£80 to £90) and they will fit it, register it and do the software update- main stealer prices are just crazy.

Software update, plug in laptop, start update, go do another job just keep an eye on the laptop, test-drive, probably 30 mins in total and £180

Wow - that's nuts for a specialist, should not be anywhere near that cost in my opinion.

A battery is nowhere near that even Halfrauds won't charge that to fit and register a battery

A new battery should not cost more than about £125 from somewhere like Tayna Batteries. Add another £25 to code it and job done. Any more than that and he is ripping you off and I would find another Indy. That's almost stealership territory.

That sounds expensive, but does the OP's car have Stop/Start?

Just wondering because when my 1 Series needed a new AGM battery in 2012 Sytner quoted me just over £300 to supply, fit and register a new one. I found an Indy who did it for £254, which still made my eyes water!

My car doesn't have stop/start and he is fitting an AGM battery, whatever that is. 😂😂😂😂

AGM is absorbed glass material - search Tanya which seems to be recommended on here and they are about £125 so £25 for fitting would be reasonable.

I had a battery replaced under warranty on the 335 and my local dealer told me circa £300 - They call it progress !

AGM - Absorbent Glass Mat

From the 'net
While regular lead acid batteries need a topping charge every six months to prevent the buildup of sulfation, AGM batteries are less prone to sulfation and can sit in storage for longer before a charge becomes necessary. The battery stands up well to low temperatures and has a low self-discharge

I suppose it's like any sort of "latest tech" stuff (thinking mobile phones, laptop PCs, flat-screen TVs and even run-flats). Expensive to begin with but as time passes it gets cheaper - thankfully!

Prices are frightening but I would not be happy paying more than £150 for a battery, hell I would change it myself and then its just registering it, no idea how long that takes but ant be that difficult, sure it can be done with Carly

Try Tanya.co.uk just checked for mine and a 95ah AGM battery is £125.00

That’s not the correct battery, you need a 70 or 80ah capacity
Rob

I agree Rob, but that is the one it recommended, did not spend too much time looking for the 80ah version.

Bosch one is only £160

I recently paid under £100 for a replacement oem size agm battery from Tanya.

Thats what I put earlier in the thread that £90 seemed sensible - £216 is a hell of a lot of money and the garage is not playing fair with the OP.
