Just popped to Tesco and the car has come up with a problem. Parking brake has failed. Any ideas on a fix or does it need to go to a main dealer?

Forgive my ignorance, is it a manual or electric handbrake? If its the former you might be able to take a look yourself, if its the latter its probably main dealer.

Hi try searching the E89 problem forum: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=125155&hilit=handbrake , how old is your battery? the date will be stamped on one of the battery terminals

The battery causes the problem but after changing the battery a software update is required for the handbrake to fix the error, as said by Maxman

Where are you, I had the same problem with mine and did the software update myself, I could help out if you live locally, or perhaps another member may be able to help

I'm in Essex. Was talking to a friend earlier who said the RAC will come and change the battery and do a software update. I've messaged a local BMW specialist who I'm due to call tomorrow to book the car in.

Remember its not a software update for the battery, its a software update for the handbrake. The RAC will probably not be able to do this.

I’m in West Yorkshire so probably a bit too far :D
As said it’s the handbrake module that needs programming/updating so will require main dealer or someone with a laptop and the suitable software
