Help Really unstable handling after fitting Eagle F1 rears!

I have just fitted two rear Eagle F1 tyres (Non run flat) and have the original run flats on the front) Since fitting these tyres the car feels very unstable especially with change of direction. The car was left jacked up for 5hrs (This would not cause any probs with the shocks) or is it that there is to much flex in the side walls?

To counter this unstable feeling would I be better dropping pressure or increasing it? I have dropped the pressure from 36 psi to 33 and noticed a very small improvement if anything.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I cant answer your problem but decreasing pressure will increase wall flex and vice versa!!!

I would try increasing it first and see how it goes. And make sure you change the tyre pressures when the air in the tyres is cold/at air temperature otherwise you cant gauge what pressures are really in the tyres at any given point.

TBH I wouldn't run RFT's with non RFT's, I know people have but it's not good practice and probably your main issue.

Brand new tyres can be a bit 'slippy' for a while. So if they're brand new you'll have to wait 50-500 miles before all the curing/transport compounds are out of the tyre.

I think fitting non run flats on the rear and run flats on the front is a bit of a no-no. Replace all or buy two new run flats for the rear. Conti Sport Contact 2's can be had for £126 fitted and I think they're great regards grip, comfort and handling.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, Whats the highest pressure you would go to try and prevent the tyre rolling form side to side? 39psi??

It does take a while to bed new tyres in, i hate Eagle F1 Asymetrics on my old car and they are slippy to start with but huge grip when the compounds get worn in.

I've got F1 asymetricals on mine ( all round) and run them at the normal pressures as per the sticker on the door jamb.I think they're brilliant. I think it's your combination of run flats and non runflats. May I suggest you replace the fronts asap to match the rears, run them for a couple of hundred miles and then you'll have the best combo around.

30 front and 34 rears work well on my F1's

Mixing run and non run flats is a no no

Are those runflats? Where can you get them for that price?!?

I have heard that the Z's do not like mix and match tyres, you should really go for the same tyres on every corner, I have read this quite a few times on here.

I dont think i would ever have different fronts to rears.

You have your real answer in not mixing tyres like you have. In the interim of course as mmm says they need to bed in, but that's real quick for the most part.

My point in posting is to say under no circumstances inflate to this sort of pressure as you'll just wear the centre of the tyre out in weeks. Dozens of us run non rft's and the general consensus is between 32 to 34 rears, little lower front.

I had mixed tyres on for a while, bridgestone RFT on the rear and Toyos T1R on the front when my rear toyo's wore out. Your Eagle F1's will certainly feel better once bedded in and you have been round a few roundabouts and scratched off the shiny layer when new! But overall I guess it depends what your intentions are... if this is short term solution adjust your driving style to suit. For example with the bridgestones on the rear in wet weather I knew that the car was prone to rear coming round a lot easier than with bridgestones all round. The reason I believe is because the fronts gave me false confidence with better wet performance into allowing me to think i had grip when braking/steering therefore overall grip. This was also the case when i had some 17's on with cheap chinese import rear tyres and p6000 on the front while my 18s were refurbed. You had to be alert and thinking what you were doing, hell they would chirp going from 2nd gear to third! But pretty grippy in the dry  You will find in the wet when your rears have bedded in properly that you get a lot of understeer up front as those bridgestones are terrible in the wet... that was the first thing I noticed and that test was done twice as after the rear toyos wore out (2nd set) I stuck the bridgestones back on to allow all 4 to wear out so I could buy a new set.

I wouldn't do it again if I could help it. Seems with the Z4 you can go through 2 rear sets to 1 front set which gives the temptation to mix when you want to change tyre brand. I would stick the fronts on ebay next time and let someone snap them up for the 5mm or so left than buy whole new set.

I've just fitted some Eagle F1's today, and I am a bit disappointed with how the rears look. They have Rim Protection, which i didn't notice, but now that they're on, they make my 224 18's look small :( Shame really.....

Any photos James?

I also got eagle f1's fitted today and think they look fine on my 10'' wide 19's.

Tyre size I went for is 255/30 for clearance.

Hi Ben, any more photos of your car from a distance? Stance looks perfect without resorting to bags!

Thanks junglist! Here's one I took earlier:

I personally wouldn't want to go any lower than this for a daily driver. It's on fk springs currently, but I have bought some eibachs to try on.
