Help Plugging in Aux Cable

Hi everyone - I've been sat in my car for the past 2 hours muttering all manner of expletives at the car whilst trying to get an aux cable plugged in. I tried every guide on here and on youtube/bimmerpost/the internet at large to get the central vents out but they simply wouldnt budge. So I went in the old fasioned way and removed the panel from beneath the heater controls and reached in and got the plug out the back (if anybody mentions how I plan on getting back in I will explode).

Anyhow, I'm at a bit of a loggerhead. I have the amp in hand and the aux cable I was sent - however I can't figure out how the two go together, I have taken pictures of both - I've been trying to follow Truman's guide http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63742, however it looks like he has a different block to me? Help anyone before I lose any more marbles haha

Sorry if this is the wrong subforum!

See thats the thing, I've watched that video countless times - but I don't think my plug is the same as the one he has - Or I'm being exceptionally thick! His seems to be large like what I assume the cd changer plug is?

Edit++ I've just thought - Unless it doesn't go into the amp that you can remove but directly into the back of the radio?

I plugged mine in to the back of the radio, it looks the same as your second picture, it DOES have spare pins left and right and can go up both ways.

i did mine just a few weeks ago. if i remember it right , and understand your pictures you are trying to plug into the adaptor. you dont.

you plug straight into the stereo itself. look at this picture ... there are two ports at the bottom. its the one i have circled green.
your cable will have three wires and ten or twelve plugs. the two plugs go to the top ... ( I think)

side note - the only way a reasonable human can get the blowers out is by using an uncoiled key ring with a bend on top. no force required ( i was ready to use a lump hammer :headbang: )

Thanks for the replies chaps - that picture was very good rooha, thanks. What did you mean regarding the unwound keyrings? After a few hours of struggling with trying to get the amp plugged back in through that small cubby without much success I've given up for the night. Might have to admit defeat and take it into a ICE specialist :(

Not sure if anybody is actually reading this but had another bash at it this morning and managed to get the vents out. I have done surgery (literally) that would seem like child play compared to this. Turns out I had an extra two clips at the bottom of the vents that needed to be shifted also before it would move. Never Again

I had the same problem I couldn't get the vent out :headbang: the instructions on line didn't help I even made a tool out of an old bicycle spoke no go. In the end I took it to Mobile Music (Car Audio Specialists) who did it for me. Only problem is no Auxiliary comes up on the Navigation/Audio System and I'm told it will need to be reprogramed to use it. Anyone know how to do that ? my bit of internet research suggested a dealer would charge £180. All I want is to play MP3 through the system on long trips through France, not get another mortgage :tumbleweed:

shouldn't need to be programmed, if its fitted properly then aux should show up

the day i removed the radio to install my new pioneer i was on the verge of brute force ripping the vents out in sheer anger :D
fucking awful design

(and the fact i can't have double din still annoys the fck outta me)

Researching online I found that AUX disappearing from the system is not a rare problem and some form of reprogramming is needed to get it back. I hoped someone on here knew of a cheaper way than a dealer.
