Help please!

Hey everyone, I'm looking to get into a 2007 m coupe pretty soon, test drove one yesterday and loved it. Only problem is that I'm about 6' 7" 255 lbs so the standard seats are just barely too cramped for me. I need about another inch or two at the knee and in headspace to be reasonably comfortable.

My question to you guys is this, what are my possible solutions? I know some people have pole position recaros and a few have cobra seats but what type of improved headroom and overall space does it provide?

Any help at all is appreciated as my decision to go ahead with a purchase is reliant upon my ability to make the space more comfortable for me.

Thanks so much! :D I will be obsessivEly checking this thread so help a brother out

Even if you changed the seats to standard non-electric seats i doubt that would get quite enough space for you.

The standard seats are quite thick so swapping for a race seat will gain a couple more inches in each direction, if you really want to gain extra room having fixed seats loses the heights of the runners but it requires a bit of nerve to do the change. I'm going to have a guess that inside leg of 34"/35" is about the limit on standard seats.

Perhaps a few other larger drivers can comment more.

Bump- please guys I'd really like to get one of these but I can't drop 30 k without some concrete evidence of a solution

Riche, ya I have about a 36 inseam so just barely too big. Racing seats are what I'm looking at, does anyone know what kind are compatible sizewise. Also I'd like to bolt them into the floor ideally but my better half thinks it would make it impossible for her to drive so I don't think it would work

I have the answer Tallguy.

...get yourself an m roadster. With the roof down you'll be motoring in no time :driving:

Or go the racing seat option, but that wasn't quite as funny in my head when I read your initial thread :tumbleweed:

Joking aside Tallguy, check out Motorsport World here....http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/
They have Sparco, Cobra and Corbeau bucket seats.

Sorry, just noticed you're in the US. Try this place too...http://www.andysautosport.com/racing_seats/bmw_z4.html

For racing seats, we would normally fix the seat and therefore weight in a car and have the wheel / pedals moveable but obviously this is not an option.
However, as you only need at most 2" more you should be able to get that with a race seat fixing, you can get locking runners (both sides locking) to fix racing seat mounts to, so that would work for your girlfriend, then you need to find the seat and runner combination that works to get base of seat down and back.

For fixing I've not checked what is where on the Z4 floor there but would be very surprised to find anything to worry about to affect fixings and with runners that should overcome the problem.

Now to hunt for suitable seat / runner combinations, there must be somewhere that sells track or racing seats nearish you. Suggest you try ringing a local track if you have difficulty finding one and they'll know somewhere close by. Getting a seat big enough for you should be doable but I suspect they not keep it in stock. You probably won't be worrying about weight of seat and more concerned with comfort, check seat is compatible with 3 point belts. Can cost from a couple hundred to many thousands, but you should find something good enough in the 250-500 range.

Have to agree you do really need to check this out before buying a car. You need a friendly local Z owner or one of the previously named folks to post, perhaps PM them.
