Help please - mysterious boot rattle

Have emptied boot and checked battery compartment but still I can hear what sounds like a small spanner bouncing around when I go over speedbumps etc.

From the drivers seat the noise seems to be coming from behind my right ear - have also checked under and behind the seats

Is there anything that could have come loose between the boot and drivers seat that I can;t see?

Mmmm sounds like the dreaded broken spring. Check both rear springs - its normally the bottom section of the spring which breaks and then sits in the rear mounting and produces exactly the sound you mention when going over speed bumps etc :!:

Many have suffered..... :(

Ah thanks Alan - is it still safe to drive in the meantime? Any risk of more serious damage?

I was also convinced I could hear the exhaust vibrating slightly but it could be the same thing?

i drove about for at least a week on mine before i'd figured it out and the new ones arrived and fitted. now you know it is the spring maybe take it easier.
order direct from suplex.

I had this a month or so back. Turned out it was my big eff off Manfrotto monopod (otherwise known as my, "road rage discouragement tool") bouncing round in there. I don't suppose that's much help though really is it? Nope? ........... I'll go back to sleep now then :zzzz:

I've got a very similar sound coming from behind me over harsh bumps as well... I'm fairly sure its not springs though as I've got Eibach Pro springs and couldn't see anything broken when I had a look.

Does your's seem to get more rattly, or rattle easier when the car's warmed up? Possibly something to do with the exhaust?
I'd be very interested to hear if you found it to be anything other than springs :)

Put a small child in the boot and hoof it round until they identify the problem.
+1 :)

But give them a torch as the boot-light will go off when lid is closed ........

......... or is it? :?
