Help please EML on

Evening all, need some help please.

Started the car today to go to work and within a mile car started feeling lumpy and then EML light came on
Turned around and went home switched of.

Got home this evening read the codes and have got the following;

P0303 Cylinder 3 misfire detected
P3240 Manufacturer control

Cleared the codes and started car again same problem but only P0303 code now being shown.

Any ideas? What should I be looking at replacing first to fix this.

Coil pack would be my first thought

Swap the coil pack over from cyl3 to cyl4 & see if the fault moves with it

Just did a google search for P3240 code, it appears its for MAP Thermostat, check if your thermostat has electrical connection to it and if it has clean the contacts and clear the code, run the car and see if it comes back. Not at all sure your 3.0l has one of these but at least you can check. Ok finally got a chance to take you guys advice and swap the coils over.. you were bang on!

So question now is what’s the best coils to replace with Make brand etc? I take it I should change all six? and I’m thinking I may aswell change the spark plugs aswell can anyone recommend make brand?

An easy fix then? That's good.
Well you have isolated which coil is dodgy so bin that one, but I'd consider hanging on to the others as spares. Could get you out of a fix some time?
I tend to do that, but then every few years I have to make more room in the garage :roll:

Rob I changed all my coils for Bosch ones, wasn't expensive. Can't remember what plugs were used though I'm afraid.

Changing all coils just because one has failed is a total false economy.
Just carry one spare with you at all times.

Does anyone know what make model the oe coil packs are and the same for the spark plugs if no one can recommend an upgrade/performance plug

Looked on euros and there's a wide range of options!
