Help please- E85 hardtop

Hi,
I am picking up a hardtop soon so I have been looking at what I need to do to connect the roof.
My model is a 2004 roadster 3.0i. (E85). I have read that there are some wires, either side of the car to connect the rear demister. I have removed the top caps where I thought the connecting wire should be but I can't see any that fits the bill.

If anyone knows where the wires should be, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

As far as I'm aware it's not a wire you plug in.
You should be able to see two semi-circular brass contacts on each side that the roof contacts.

Thanks enuff_zed. I just phoned my contact at BMW and he said that what he can recall, you drop it in and fasten with tool. The metal spindles do the connecting.

The metal spindle/spike either side needs 90deg turn to lock and don't forget the same on the central overhead one that locks on top of the windscreen frame. The special tool/Allen key that comes with the roof fits both side and overhead locks. Rear screen connects as per enuffZeds description

Here's a useful manual for the hardtop. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. If you have the hardtop prep, should be drop and play however, if adjustments are needed. the retrofit document will help. Skip to chapter 3 on how it is installed. 4 and 5 should be a one time adjustment. nt something you do every time you take it off and put it on.

On a side note, anyone knows where i can obtain 6E? I realised i'm missing these.

How do I know if my E85 has a hardtop prep kit installed?

If you're in the UK all E85s came pre-fitted with the kit. To check there's two rubber bings that cover the B-pillar mounting points that, when pulled off, reveal the mounting holes.

Thanks smorris-12.
I have just checked and I can see the holes. I am based in the UK. Bromley.
Travelling 400 miles round trip to pick up the roof on Saturday, itbwill.neee to be resprayed..

So, I picked up the hardtop today and it came with a wire on each side. Does this mean I can ignore them as the spindles once inserted electrically connect. Again, I can't see any obvious wires to connect to the hardtop wires. Thanks

Do the wires have a black push on connector on their ends ? These should be pushed on to a metal spade connector further up each spindle, circled in red. These wires go to either side of the rear screen

Hello patriot66. Yes, the cables have a connector at each end and I have located the spades you mentioned. Makes sense now. Thank you very much.

Further question please. Does anyone know which is the adjusting nut on the spindle to adjust the front of the hardtop near the front windscreen. I have issues accessing the instructions provided. Thanks

I'm afraid I can't help you there Jamturbo but maybe someone else can. My car came with the hardtop and I've never had to adjust it in almost 9 years

Realised a subscription is needed. PM me your email and i shall email the official instructions to you ;)

Nobody knows the part number for diagram item E?

Update
I managed to adjust the roof and I am happy with where it is at. I found the trick is to make small adjustments and check. Purely by chance, I discovered that the fit at the front seats better if the front of the hood is secured first followed by the two at the back. Anyway, it worked for me.
