Help on a few Newbie Questions Please

So I’m looking at getting a Z4 Coupe Sport and have a few newbie questions. :oops:

I’ve been to look at one Coupe so far so I’ve not got much to go on but my next nearest Coupe in my price bracket is well over 100 miles away! So I thought I’d try and get some questions answered before I go and have a look at the next one.

What the low down on services? I’ve read the service schedule goes oil change, inspection 1, oil change, inspection 2 but if these are variable how do I know it’s had what its needed? Or what the next one will be? I don’t want to buy a car and then have a surprise big service I didn’t know about.

Wanting to know what the biggest bill I could have would be I called a local BMW specialist and they quoted Inspection 1 £200, Inspection 2 £260 and Oil £130. This seems pretty reasonable to me and much lower than some prices I’ve seen from people on the forum.

If I get one with 60k on the clock I’ll still own it when it goes above 100K so do I have anything to worry about? Or any big bills?

It’s proving harder work than any car search I’ve done before as they are just so rare. It looks like I’m going to clock up a few miles on this search!
 
They sure are rare mate which is one of the main reasons I bought one :) I had to travel to London from Newcastle to buy mine but was worth it for the drive back :driving:

With regard to servicing you have got it correct with Oil Change>Inspection1>Oil Change>Inspection 2 etc. This is variable or every 2 years whatever is first. When you turn the ignition on the dash tells you how many miles till the next service and what it is i.e. oil change or Inspection (it doesn't tell you if it is an inspection 1 or 2 though but the service book should).

The prices you have been quoted from the local specialist are good. If you want to keep a FBMWSH going though its always worth haggling with dealers and definitely providing your own oil!I recently got an oil service done at BMW and they quoted £195 I asked how much if I provided my own oil (they are happy for you to do this) so to do the service, oil filter, and micro filter, and they quoted me £80 i.e. they wanted £110 for the oil which I got for £40!

So when I go to view a car the service book is key, as two cars with the same mileage could have two totally different next services.

How important is a FBMWSH? I've never been that impressed by the service I've got from a dealer. The tip about taking my own oil is great thanks. It will save a packet as I get free oil.

I have seen your car in the for-sale section but it's just outside my price bracket I'm afraid. It's looks a beautiful car in the right colour combination with the exact spec I'm looking for.

I wouldn't pay the first price you see for a car... Might be worth having a wee go at negotiation :wink:
 
Have you looked at some roadsters and taken them for a test drive? Roof down motoring is great, and the zed is very good in terms of torsional rigidity, as it was a purpose built roadster.

Hope you find your perfect zed :thumbsup:

Such passion Adamski - every potential coupe buyer on here that I have seen since i joined has been gifted with your Message of Joy. I love it :thumbsup:

... And by the way, I agree. A potential new owner should always try both. I nearly bought a coupe 3 years ago when it was the only one I could get to test drive through my company. Great fun, but i know now that I'd always have regretted not getting a roadster.
 
tip 1 Its a buyers market so dont pay asking price look on the bmw approved car site . they dont sell them unles they have passed their 120 Point check and they will come with 12 Month warrant haggle and you will get al least a grand of the price
tip 2 Stay with the coupe that straight six 3 Litre engine is the best in world smoothe and fast very reliable i have had six bmw with that engine in i know what im talking about .

Ya can get the same engine in the e85 don't you know :poke:

......can of worms time :), the only point I see in a coupe is to have 4 seats...... doh.......you see there is no point to a Z4 coupe :D

I've had access to a roadster for the past three years and I've probably driven it 100+ times and only had the roof down twice. I'm just not a roof down kind of guy.

I tried a few coupes and roadsters when trying to settle on my Zed. In the end it came down to this: I figured the coupe is quantitatively better than anything else I'd previously driven, but the roadster experience is qualitatively different to anything else. If you want that different experience, then the roadster has to be the car - if you don't and just want the best car, the coupe is the better option.

Apples and oranges.
 
Just rang the seller of the front runner and it's gone! :(

The other one I'm going to see has 60,000 miles on the clock so I'm not sure about it. :?

I planned to get a few viewings under my belt so I'm going any way but what do you guys think about that kind of mileage? I'm going to be putting 15,000/20,000 a year on so when it's time to sell it will be over 100,000 miles.

My mind is made up on the coupe/roadster debate but good on you roadster guys for trying ;)
