Few Problems with my Z4 - help please :P

Hello all (and Merry Christmas)

As my dinner is cooking away in the oven, I thought I'd come on here just to highlight a few problems with my 2005 BMW Z4. The car was for sale however since deciding to take it off the market, a few lights have come on the dashboard.

The famous red airbag light is on the car - when I bought the car from the garage, he said that he had been to BMW to fix the light and assured me that there are NO problems with the airbag itself. 2 months in, the light has now appeared.

However, the main issue I have is that I recently had new brake pads and discs fitted to the car. A few weeks ago, I was about to go to work in the car and the yellow brake pad warning light came on the dashboard! I had the car checked over at the garage who fitted them and he said there is no wear on the pads and the sensors are in place and the light shouldnt be on!! Any ideas how I can get rid of this light on the dashboard?

Any help is appreciated :)

Kind regards, Vijay

I dare say that the SRS light will be the occupancy sensor in one of the seats..... Nedds a diag check to see whats going on..

Brakes...

The warning wires work on a loop return system. So the "loop" has to be broken for the wire to illuminate...99% of the time its the sensor thats been badly routed and worn through, sometimes the plug has dirt in causing a bad connection..

Rarely is it the wiring loom that at fault.

The brake sensor is the contact type though, i.e. open circuit means no light and it is the earth that is connected (hence lighting when worn through). Remember you have one at the front and one at the rear, did you check the ones that had NOT been replaced or were they all replaced?

Thanks for the replies.

The mechanic at the garage I took the car to told me exactly everything he needed and he specifically asked for two new sensors so I bought them.

The light came on a few weeks back whilst the weather was wet, so may be a bit of dirt. I hope :)

Once triggered it will not un-trigger until the problem has been resolved. The sensors are the most likely fault, so one of them will need replacing.

You're wrong...it's the opposite, closed loop system= light off , open = light on.

There are two wires, If it was the earthing system there would only be one wire !

I did think that....But its a while since i did some Z4 brakes...

Either way,i would have thought its the wires at fault..

does the brake light on the dash come on periodically to indicate the fluid needs changing ? - thats what my garage said..... just before he reset it ....

No.....

It may have been a little low on fluid, making the warning light flash.. Vijay is talking about his pad wear indicator light.
