HELP - new wheel centres loose

I've planned to change all my BMW badges next weekend to new shiny black ones and I thought today that I would take a wheel off to check the new centres fitted OK.

They are the same size, fitted fine, sat well and looked great :thumbsup: ... but they were a bit loose fitting and I'd worry they would fall out if driven. The clips at the back don't seem to grip enough :(

Has anyone had the same issue when fitting theirs?.. and how was it solved?

MIne had a bit of electrical tape wrapped round the outside of the lugs.
2000 miles before I realised.
Can't see it as it's behind the badge.

Bit of tape or some glue on the lugs will be fine. All the aftermarket ones appear to be the same.
 
if they are after market ones they will be loose.bought a set off ebay crap got rid of them :thumbsdown: .got a proper set from bmw £28

Yeah, I used silicone adhesive. However it is a bit of a PITA for me when I change to winter wheels as I have to take them out, clean them and the wheels up (silicone is horrible to get off), then glue them all into the other wheels. When I do it this year I am going to try the electrical tape technique :thumbsup:

Worth saying that the caps sometimes need to come out if you get your tyres changed depending on the balancing machine the fitters use. So more PITA.

At some point I am going back to OEM anyway and will get genuine ones - just need to find the £150 required :o

They are fakes thought aren't they.

Bing you can get a genuine set for under £40 from main stealer.
 
Yeah, I wonder how long they will last... I don't want fakes. My c/f are fakes obviously and all are starting to show signs of water getting in behind the badge, and the bonnet one is going yellowish. No reason to think these wouldn't do that too.

I need the bonnet, boot and side repeaters as well - Sopers quoted £149 incl. VAT and forum discount for the set. I'll have a shop around...
 
I chopped the new ones down and glued them into the old bases. The old bases come apart quite easily and I used just the bottom part. I used glue called "sticks like s#@t" and they haven't budged in the 7 months they've been on.
 
Wrap three layers of insulating tape around the lugs and tap them in. they'll stay in but how long they'll last is anyone's guess. Yes I bought the same!

Do you know what, that might just work... Would still be waterproof too, as that would be my worry with tape :thumbsup:

Bing - I like the idea of the silicone especially with Talksthetorque's idea of letting it cure first
Talksthetorque, ben g & ekimj10 - Nice idea with the tape trick or glue

I wanna try and keep my existing OEM in case I ever want to put them back on so I'm probably going to try the cured silicone approach and use the tape as a backup if that fails. :)

I'll report back later as to how I get on :thumbsup:
 
Used blue masking tape in mine. But only on 1 lug so all the others can still grip the grooves. Been in for months now with no issues.
