Hi i was reading the manual about what to do if the hood motor fails and it talks about an pull cord in the boot but I havent got one its missing.

The previous owner had a new hood motor fitted and im thinking they forgot to put the cord back through hole in trim panel. Im hoping I can fix this myself, is it easy enough to get that rear panel off to find the cord. Cheers

Ok so ive managed to undo the trim panel a bit and ease it back but I cant see the pull cord anywhere. I was hoping it was just stuck behind the trim but its not. Any ideas how I get to it and fit it back through the hole. Cheers.

Come on peeps im stuck I need help. Is this pull cord thing important? What does it do when you pull it. Will I be able to manually operate roof if I cant find it. Can anyone help. Cheers.

When the boot lid is open, you should be able to see a red hoop at the top of the boot opening - just under the lip and off centre to the left of the car. You don't need to remove any trim, but you may need to crouch down to see it.

It is possible that it has been removed by someone changing the roof motor.

If it is not fitted, it is just about possible to operate the roof manually, but it is very difficult and unless you are careful, you could damage or twist something critical. Putting the hood down without manual override is easier than putting it up.

When pulled out, it operates a small lever on the side of the motor housing that enables the hydraulic fluid to bypass the motor.

Don't worry about it, it only unlock the centre console compartment in the even of electrical failure resulting in the compartment not being unlocked. Once it is unlocked you can press the manual roof release just above the compartment. Later cars (facelift) don't use this so the cord was omitted.

Probably still using up old carpet panels. Mine still has the cord and bracket but the roof doesn't actually lock down to it. My last one didn't even have the hole in the carpet.

Facelift with Red pull cord here too, maybe it was from a certain build date rather than a defined pre-facelift/facelift scenario.

I thought the red cord released the motor not the top lock... So all roadsters regardless of age had them?

My 08 certainly has it... But the roof doesnt clip in place when down like the pre.

All roadsters ahve the red pull, its the cord in the boot bulkhead we are talking about.

I had a feeling I was misunderstanding something above  , so the extra pull cord that facelifts don't have just released the centre cubby lock?
