Hi Ray feel you pain buddy.

I will be doing mine in a few weeks so if you wait. I can either guide you through it. Or once i have done mine offer to do it for a fee?
That's a top offer MM!
If the job's a good'un and everything turns out OK on yours and Ray's, I would even be tempted to let you rip on mine as I'm beginning to tire of the constant fidgety steering feel. After years of being spoiled by hydraulic BMW steering feel the zed's is just horrid.
This could even become the next roof-motor-relocation-type trend.....

It could well be a service i could offer. Might need to as i spent a fortune on bits for my car yesterday.

Hi mates,

the same job, we did this year on july at a Alpina Roadster S.

Same fault. Sterring torque sensor was broken. We replaced it by an column from a LHD car. Some column can be fixed, depending on defect. And yes, you have to code it, for error-free function..

regards

Evening All

A quick question regarding installing hydraulic steering as it's something I have considered, would the EPS warning light be on or is there a way around this.

Also any indication on the cost of the parts.

Cheers
Ady

You would either have to turn off the light with coding or pull the bulb!! I paid just over £100 for all the bits with a purple rack. But I got lucky exsoect to pay £200 ish all in for bits.

There is a garage in Sussex who will charge £2000 for the conversion which is a little expensive. I am getting a forum member to carry out the conversion and I am in the process of getting all the bits ready. You are looking for the parts from an E46 2.5 petrol not a diesel. In an ideal world you need the rack, tie rod ends, the pump which is an LF20 along with the brackets, reservoir and all the pipes including the cooler. I am however going about it in a different way . I have bought a purple tag reconditioned rack from ebay for £129. It has 2.5 turns rather than 2.9 which is why you need a purple one. I have bought the tie rods ends from Amazon for £40. I have spent on ebay around £80 on the steering pump and bracket, the reservoir tank bracket and pipes. The pipes also included the fluid cooler which is just a u shaped metal pipe. So for around £250 I have all the parts which include a new recon rack and tie rod ends. Probably just going to remove the bulb. I was worried the Traction control would be affected by the steering fault but it has not affected it. I believe there is a slight modification to remove a tag on the steering joint. The member who had this carried out does not seem to be on the forum anymore so it will be a learning process. I will let you all know how this turns out but as I said a certain forum member will be carrying out the work as I am geting to old to lie under the car.
