Help Need from Reinhold Owners...

Right heres the deal, I installed the One Touch Module, and the passenger window stopped functioning correctly, was told I could have a bad connection, I repaired the connections and everything seemed fine, so i put the roof down, and it wouldnt come back up, it was as if the botton was disabled!

So I've removed the module...and everything is working fine, windows auto up, down, roof opening and closing...

As the moment the wires are still ready for plugging straight back into the module, all i've done is unplugged it and wrapped insulation tape round the connectors to the module sockets...

Anyways, just been outside and plugged everything back into the module...windows are working, and the roof came down without an issue...

Then when it came to putting the roof back up nothing happened, the button didnt light up, nothing came from the motors...nothing...

So i removed the module, taped everything back up, and everythings back to stock and working! Any ideas? is the module just broken?!

Heres an idea of how the module is connected...

Each wire from the car or plugs are connected to something like scotch lock, its the block things which have screws, dont know what you call them...This is in turn connected to a piece of wire on the other side which has the connectors to the module connected to it! Once I unplug the module i simply tape the applicable cables together to retest and everything is fine, however, when I plug the module back the roof wont come back up!

Yes - real easy a Reinhold module is extremely problematic when wired in using mechanical connections. I had strange issues when first fitting the remote and one touch modules. Spoke the Andreas Reinhold (the maker) and he said they MUST be soldered in and not using connectors. Did that and never had a problem since.

Of course someone will post that they have never had an issue and used Scotcloks, so all I can offer is to say that's what the maufacturer told me accounts for nearly evey single problem assuming of course you have connected to the correct wires which there are 2 the same colour for the remote unit...lol

I'll have a go at removing the connectors and wiring the module in without...

Anyone else with any suggestions?! As I have doubts that removing the connectors will help as the connectors are currectly inplace and the roof is going up and down without the module...

Unless cj10jeepers, you mean that its the connectors together with the module that has issues and connectors with the stock setting isnt an issue, so its just the modules that dont like the connectors?!

Let me clarify - the Reinhold module itself is sensitive to mechanical connectors and will not function correctly unless it is soldered in.

I suggest you contact Andreas Reinhold by email and he will give you specific advice as he designed and makes them, but I'm merely reporting what he told me. I have BTW fitted at least 5 of these and the remote units in Zeds for people :)

I've emails Andreas, his reply was simply to check I had a clean connection! I'll be playing with it as soon as I get sometime in the light!!!

Hopefully I'll get it working! I'll try this time without any connectors, Just going to link the cables to one an other!!!

As my posts before, and CJ has said 99% will be done to poor connections, I still have scotch locks on mine as I'm not that good with the soldering iron, but know anytime I tamper round the ashtray area I may have a problem. I bought a coolt touch soldering iron so that if I dropped it wouldnt damage anything etc but think I needed to flux the wires and will proabalby have another go in the summer.

Just remember not to use a main powered soldering iron though as you will earth the car and blow it up! I exagerate slightly

Interesting. I never received a reply from Andreas when I asked about the adjusters on the module (i.e. I have a module here which does not have adjusters on it whilst most of them seem to have that). Still have not installed it as I never got a reply despite a number of emails.

I have a remote Module which doesnt have the adjusters either...just plain cables!

I'll give the One Touch another go after work! Hopefully I'll get it sorted!!!

I have had mine installed for almost 1 1/2 years. Like the others posting the connections are very important.

I do have one other thought for you. The two wires that go to the body module have 2 variable resisters on them that help match your key to the module.

You may want to adjust those resisters and then check your operation. I am not sure which resister it would be, it is either the one on the yellow or white wire. Because you have operation of the roof down, one is working correctly. Do me a favor and disconnect one of the wires, either white or yellow and try and drop the top. If the top does not drop, reconnect and disconnect the other and try to drop the top again. This will tell us which wire is up and which is down for sure ( instead of me guessing). Once this is known, the wire that is disconnected will be the one we really need to deal with. The yellow wire should attach to pin 22 the blue/red wire, the white wire should attach to pin 20 the white/ black wire. As I remember when installing mine, on one of these connections there was two wires the looked very much alike, I however do not remember which. If you would let me know which wire controlls up / down I would perhaps be able to help someone else a bit quicker the next time this question comes up.

I would only adjust the one that is not working and by doing this prosedure, it will point right to the offending connection or the resister that needs adjustment.

Hope this helps.

I do have another question. You only installed the up/down module, correct? There is also a one touch module as well.

There's 2 modules I have...One Touch (one touch opens / closes roof), and Remote (up / down with key)...

I am having problems with the One Touch, the Remote one is sitting on my desk!

Disreguard my post then. I only have to up/down module. If when you install the other module, you could answer my question I would be thankful for that answer.

Right just had another couple of hours messing with the module!

Everything is working apart from the roof coming back up! So the windows work, the roof goes down...

I'll be emailing Reinhold in the morning to see if there is anything I can try...

But I was just wondering if anyone on here would know if its possible to have a half working unit?! As its going to cost me to send the item out to germany for them to let me know if I purchased a dud unit!!!

Or would anyone be nice enough to test the unit in their car for me if i sent them the unit and some money to send me the item back?! Or if anyone is close by (yorkshire) that would be able to meet up to have a look at it...

Thanks,
Tom

PS. at the mo I have the unit plugged in so the roof is going down on one touch, but will only come up if you press and hold the button (worked out the brown / violet cable operates the up procedure)...

Picking up on IMZ4N's post are you 100% sure you have the correct wires to tap into. As said 2 are almost identical and it is a near impossible place to get to the plugs and wire to see for sure?

White is to open, Yellow to close :)

Told you you should have had the one touch module too

Phil

Rub it in. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Thank You for the information. I have noted the info on my sheet. The older I get the more writing I need to do.

Bob - you're not alone. For some sad reason I wrote it down on a post it and kept that detail in the service book wallet. I guess age has shown that when I need to know I'll have forgotten.

Forgotten what? who are you and why am I writing this?

I'm pretty sure i'm connecting all the correct cables! I'll have another look later..If i still cant get it to work I'll be getting rid of the thing! LOL!
