Help me, I'm considering something else...

As I'm being picky with the Z4M Coupe I want, its taking me a while to source the right car. So now I'm starting to look at what else is out there and something has really turned my head :|

Look at this for the same money a Z4M Coupe will cost:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201205445862738/sort/locasc/usedcars/price-from/7000/price-to/16000/radius/1500/page/1/postcode/ng334ll/keywords/cl600?logcode=p

(some more pics and further down the also very nice CL55K http://www.sovereign-trading.co.uk/ )

V12 Bi-Turbo!!! :o These things are loaded with so many goodies: Massaging seats, adaptive radar cruise control etc etc. Then add over 500bhp and is it perfection?!

I know its a completely different beast to the Z4M Coupe but as much as the Coupe grabs me for its driveability, this grabs me for the pure luxury and performance.

Talk me out of it people as I know the Z4M Coupe would be the more sensible option :poke:

Noo, noo, noo. Unless you are an east European wannabe gangster in a dodgy padded leather jacket, who keeps coke in the glove box and someone's finger in the boot, it won't be for you. Get servicing and insurance quotes, test drive it and walk away. I had two hefty Mercs, they look like value but it will the most expensive mistake ever (unless you've had a divorce).

LOL, keep it coming :)

I know they are completely different, but I appreciate what both cars bring to the table:

Z4MC: Its close to the current love of my life, my Elise, but with added comfort. Its a reall drivers car, manual gearbox, an engine that wants to be pushed, LSD.

CL: Lots of gadgets to play with, huge on the luxury side of the things.

Both cars look great and are rare (although only petrol heads will be able to tell this Merc is any different from all the others you see on the road everyday) Both go well too :)

Pros as I see it. Z4MC is the drivers car, it will be cheaper to run (fuel, servicing, repairs) Less on it to go wrong and in my opinion will hold its value better. Can do the odd track day in it. The CL is more luxurious / loaded with toys and surprisingly a lot cheaper car tax. Although the difference in MPG will soon take care of that 'pro' With a decent exhaust I would imagine the Merc will sound amazing!

Dont get me wrong I like the Merc its just a very large car in comparison, I had an E24 Coupe which I just sold and replaced with an E86 and they are completely different! I know what you mean about toys, but I think first and foremost should be practicality - what is the car going to be used for and if thats not an issue what comes next?

Drive performance or luxury .. etc etc

A pro's and cons list may certainly help you ..

What will it be used for? Well it will have to take on a number of roles:

A car I will use for work. I have to travel to various sites across the UK, although I tend to use the train where possible, sometimes I have to use the car. This means I will be leaving it at train stations and sometimes driving to clients. I get paid per mile so economy isn't too high a priority, although the better it is the more 'profit' I make out of the trip.

Next the car will need to take on the role of being my pride and joy, a car I can polish at weekends, have pride in and just go for a drive for the hell of it. I would like to do the occasional track day but realisticaly this will be one or two a year so again its suitability for that is not a high priority. I have a competition spec Drift car for my track fix should I need it.

We do have a nice comfortable (and not slow) cruiser in the household for long cross country drives, other practical reasons etc in the form of a 535d Touring. (so would the Merc be something similar again, ie better off with a fun car?)

Sharp & Lairy Z4M > Bloated Muscle Car Benz

Can see the attraction but it does nothing for me whatsoever.. Don't let your Elise experience delude the amount of luxury you need to still make something fun. Do you really want an auto?

a rocket powered gentleman's club or a fast snug ?

I can see the attraction of both.
Pity the CL it is three times the price to run.

PS are you markymark on mbclub?

Think you've hit the nail on the head here

And yeah thats me on there. I was considering an SLK55 AMG at one point :headbang: Something about the idea of that two seater with a 5.4l V8 - then in the summer off comes the roof :) Just the fact it doesn't look that great and it lacks that driaveability has put me off a bit

that is how we ended up with a Z4,

I don't know how well off you are but I reckon you need to be better than comfortable to not let replacing £1400 a corner suspension struts take the fun out of CL ownership. Not that I have owned one, and for good reason.

Pity, as I bet a good one is a joy to own.

Not that well off!!!

I've owned a CL of that vintage albeit only a paltry 500. The running costs compared to my Z4M can only be described as biblical, epic, ruinous or gargantuan. If the air suspension on these things fail it is thousands. A pair of mufflers was thousands and when I wanted a new key cut due to the computer system having a bit of a hissy fit the only option was to replace the entire COMMAND module for £5k.

A CL600 was a £100k+ car when new and the running costs don't go down over time. If you can afford it you'll have one of the most refined GTs going. Just remember its no sports car.

Also.. you also have use of an e61 535d.. surely it's a no brainer? Pic of that please.. I'm saving for an e61 520d with the panny roof atm

Here you go :)

Carbon black too. I love it. My first experience of bmws and I'm well impressed. Goes so well.
