After all this knob talk

My horn seems to have gone from a macho two tone get the **** out of my way to a reedy, single tone ‘excuse me….’

Where to look- fuses first (are they on separate fuses) or wiring to the units?

Cheers

Stuart

You aren't having much luck lately what with your knob and now your horn!

Hopefully this might help with the fuses - looks like Numbers 14 and 37.

Both horns get power from the same relay and fuse but separate wiring. It's either the wiring or the horn itself.

Are both horns in the same location? I recall seeing them when the front was off but not sure if both sides

There are two horns for the z4, one on each side behind the fog lights. I had to replace one of mine when it did the same as yours.

I think there are two wires on both the low tone horn and the high tone horn.

I swapped the wires to test if the wires were good and/or the horn was good. In my case it was the horn.

I’m happy to report that the horn is back in full effect.

Thanks to Barry (Umfaan) who is the automotive equivalent to viagra

Near side horn failed

I’m going to strip it to see why in the week

My nearside one failed, it was totally filthy. The splash guard was split with big chunks missing though so left exposed to the elements probably caused it to fail. I replaced both horns whilst I had the bumper off & fitted a replacement splash guard.

Definitely does Stuart. Hope you're keeping well buddy  .
Getting mine MOT'd tomorrow & then taxed on Tuesday :driving:

I had my horn stop working luckily after just passing French mot,I didn’t realize there were 2 so 1 must have already failed,I checked fuses first and they were ok then tested horns and found the problem, the lo tone one on L/H side looked original with bmw plug, the other was a round rusty item with spade connectors, can someone confirm if this is oe equipment or not.Temporarily fixed problem robbing hi tone horn from my e36.
