Sars , Im not denying more power less weight is the formula for performance .
The OP is looking for a set of wheels & John suggests buying the lightest ? Im saying buy the ones you like visually as it's highly unlikely you will notice any weight difference from behind the wheel in 99 out of 100 cases

Hard to argue with that - unless you're a 9/10ths+ driver and pushing the car hard the difference a lighter set of wheels will make is not going to be noticed....

...although, visually, forged wheels may be more appealing anyway as the extra strength/lower weight allows some nice 'thin' designs that wouldn't necessarily be possible with cast wheels

Obviously, for the majority, how the wheel looks is of higher importance than it's mass, though johnfm's point remains valid, in that no one previously had mentioned the mass of the four wheels and this could be a deciding factor given that he doesn't have a visual preference. Or put more simply if you had a choice between two wheels that you equally find aesthetic, why wouldn't you choose the lighter?

IIRC, superleggera and ultraleggerra are cast wheels and in 18 X 8 weigh around 8.4 kg or so.

My original post on this wasn't 'buy the lightest wheel you can buy' but more 'of the four, why isn't weight being discussed'.

To a a point, some weight savings are a bit pointless on a street car. But 30% per corner of unsprung, rotating mass would be noticeable at relatively normal road speeds.

Anyway, I didn't come here to have a pop or derail the OP's thread. I like the grey one.

I understand now, didn't get this from your original post. I agree, if you have four sets of wheels to choose from, and just can't decide, then why not factor in weight as well? Might as well get the benefits (noticeable or not) of lighter wheels if you can't choose based on aesthetics.

This took quite a tangent

I wimped out of all of the above in the end and ordered a set of TSW Bathurst

After all that :D
Least you can do is show us a pic :poke:

Interesting that choice 4 is out front yet virtually matches the cars own grey paint colour :?
i think they would virtually "kill" the cars looks & look smaller than they would if a contrasting colour
The same wheels in matt black or high silver or hyper black would look great on the OPs car imo
agree on not having a similar colour, Set 1 or 3 for me based on colour, but black would look good on a grey car i would think

What finish did you go for on them? I like the Gunmetal Bathhurst ones myself.

I went for gunmetal, they should be arriving sorbet Friday or Monday so I'll put some pics up then. Not too horrifically expensive in the end considering they're forged but still a bit more than I originally planned to spend!

TSW Bathurst a great choice  far nicer than any of your original options imo :o
They look great with the concave spoke style although need to be convinced with gunmetal on a grey car :? will wait for the pics

Not convinced on the colour but style looks great ,
Out of curiousity what are the widths, offsets & tyre sizes ? The fronts look borderline out / in the arch :?

They look good DH. I think the colour looks cool, too. The arch gaps are slightly too big in the scheme of things now but my worry would be that with any lowering, mostly the fronts drop more than the backs and you might have a rubbing issue with those tyres - that being said, those are 18s, right? Most guys go for a bigger diameter wheel but looks like you haven't, and it all gets a bit too technical withe measurements for me from this point on...!
They look good to me anyway!
Stevo

Yeah, they're 18s. I didn't really want to go bigger as I think they already looked big enough and then you factor in the ride on our appalling roads plus the cost of tyres...

The arch gaps look pretty comical now, I'll lower it at some point but coilovers aren't cheap so it'll probably have to wait, a smidge of camber should sort any rubbing if there is any
