I wish I knew about this forum before I bought the car (which I'm delighted with!! Still look back at it when I walking away from it...... is that sad?)

Glad the photos help. It's hard to visualise wht effet changes have until you see them in a photo or better the flesh.

Re 'sad' No way is that sad. When you stop looking back at a car after you park it up it's time to change

Rabman that's a cracking link for all the BMW alloys

3djam do you not fancy 224 style wheels as per the sig above?? (and below)

Ok, Whats the difference between the two Ellipsoids? They look the same. Is one set the staggered sport and the other one non staggered?

IMO multi-spokes always look great on BMW`s so my choice out of the options is the 135M. I also find they enhance the Z4 classic/classy look
I`d love to see how the 101M`s look on a Z4 ! I saw them in the Z4 accessories catalogue but have not seen a picture with them fitted.

The ellipsoids look ok on a cab even if they do remind me of XR3i wheels :P

Splitties are usually lighter and I`m all for weight savings, even more so in unsprung weight savings

I think the 135m's are the best looking alloys for the Z4. In my opinion, the 108s show far too much of the disc and brakes for my liking.

Im in the market for getting a Z4 any time soon. just waiting for the right colour/optional extras/price combo to appear. but most cars sold on AUC have the 108s and i dont think i can stretch to changing wheels after buying the car.
Due to 108's having the corrosion problems, Will BMW replace them under warranty if they corrode? and will they do the same under the BMW extended warranty too?

Do 135m's suffer from this corrosion too?

Also.. what does the split rim alloys mean? i heard that you can't use specfic alloy cleaners just as the autoglym on these.. Why is this?

Cheers

Voted 108 but i am biased as i love those wheels and will continue to put up with the probs

Re Sad No way mate i look back at my car every day when i go to get the bus to work and look again from the bus as it goes past my house :D

Split rims are wheels made of multiple parts and bolted together and you see the bolts. To seal against water and air leakage, seals are used. I believe some cleaners cant be used because the chemicals may damage the seals causing air loss.Might also be to do with bolts also, the cleaner can remain and cause premature corrosion. Usually the same sized split rim wheel when compared to a solid wheel will be lighter (depending on materials used of course)

That's not exactly correct as there are no seals on the 108 split rims. The inner star is bolted to the outer part of the rim. There is no split in the parts adjoining the tyre and the corrosion can never cause air leaks, rather just cosmetic.

The weakness of these rims is that the outer lip has a vulnerable polished edge and secondly water, grime and salt has a safe harbout to work in between the 2 parts of the rim.

I too really like the 108s and its a real shame BMW have not come up a fix to the corrosion problem. 108s are VERY common on zeds though. Almost every one I see have them on.

That's because they look the best... ;)

+1

Common = popular = best :poke: But if i had a coupe then i would definitely go for some CSL reps, they suit the car perfectly imo :)

^ That's exactly what I said. Ellipsiods matches pre-facelift front spoiler/rear clusterlight much better, but not on facelift model.

Good point, the styling does match better.

It's a good job I prefer the pre-facelift bumper. I like the clean look 8)

Same here, the pre-facelift front bumper works with the rest of the car, as do the 107's... can't wait to get mine on.

Facelift bumpers introduces straight lines and weird things like that :P

Odd ;)

Started with the elipsiods on mine and went to the 108's, by far the best wheel for the Zed. Unique and distinctive. Ellipsoids look heavy and dated now, but of course it's personal choice and fit what you feel looks right for your car, colour and style.

Tried to find a couple of shots of similar angles to compare:

108's for me 2! i have them on mine but need them refurbished and the finish on cj10jeepers was kind of what i was looking at. the best wheels in my oppinion, if you do get rid my second is the elipsoids

I like the "clown shoes" on my white car, but I think the 108's add a lot to many other colors.
