Evening all. Just bought 2003 3.0i example which is absolutly fine apart from the lack of ipod capability. It was suggested that the way to go was via the Connects2 system that bypasses the CDplayer (which is fine) and plugs into the existing radio. Bought, done and turned it on to find that it's very quiet ....the ipod's volume's about 1/4 to a 1/3 of what the radio is pumping out when the ipod and radio volume is max'd. Checked the ipod volume limiter and other settings - all fine and it works in my other car fine. My music on the iphone is just the same.... Any suggestions?
I also got hold of a DICE ipod converter. Same sort of thing cable to the ipod goes into a small black box and then a very long cable into ...... what - the CD changer or the back of the radio? It's never made very clear on the instructions. If it is the CD changer just how do you get to the back of it - via the boot and if so how???? Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated as CD only trips are driving me spare.......

Manual for the DICE is here... cant help you with the Connects2 system though.

BTW - don't forget the newbie post, with pics of the car etc

I would suggest there is something wrong with your connects2 as I have one and it's output is fine

I don't have a Dice, but I had a Dension in my mini and I now have an Intravee in my Zed. Normally the adapter uses the cd auto changer cable which is unplugged from the back of the changer and plugged into the unit you've bought.

I would say one of the leads is damaged. When I first bought my Z4 I had a connects2, but stupidly wanted my sat nav screen to show music playlists etc (waste of money)

Anyhow, my dension after a while began to play iPhone music much quieter than before - I bought a new lead and the sound output was back to normal. I put it down to the cable being twisted from use.

Thanks Ranski that's interesting. Was i right to interpret the instructions for the Connects2 system in that only a part of the Connects2 plug is plugged in to the back of the radio plug (does that make any sense?) and then into the radio. I read it that what is actually the input for the cd changer part of the large plug going into the radio is disconnected (a smallish black rectanglular 8 or so pin plug) and only the equivalent part of the connects 2 is used as a replacement - replacing the cd changer. What didnt help was rubbish instructions with no detail ....... Cheers

Hi Russ

I have the below connects2 which connects into the back of the cd changer (boot side) then routes through to the front of the car

Hi there thanks for this - your one seems to be different from mine which is just one silver box with two phono plugs in and a multi plug the other end and the ipod cable out the other side. Still i have improved the volume a bit by just taking it out and putting it back in the dash, so it could be twited cables - i have another unit coming anyway so with a bit of luck........... thanks again

Seems obvious, but have you tried turning the volume up to max on the IPod itself?

Was thinking of getting a Connects2 myself - is the display/search limited to playlists, or can you search folders/albums?

Oh yes the iPod's up to 11! The Connects 2 is entirely based on the iPod being the controller so basically everything is controlled through it. So my understanding of it is that it's fully selectable - if only I could hear it!!!
Got a Dice system off eBay and plugged it in and works fine - volume and everything now all I have to do is get the cable through the centre console and into the cabin - baffled, anyone got any ideas???? Ta

I got my dice installed the dice lives in the battery compartment

And the ipod wire goes into the center cupboard

In the front open the flap bottom passenger side is a little tab that can be broken out

Break it out

Use a coat hanger or if you have one a cable rod, push it through the tab hole

Go into to the boot next to the cd chi gear wiring you should be able to see your coat hanger

Attach your ipod lead and pull it through

I will get you a pic

Got one:

Like I said if you break that tab out and poke something through that hole straight back it comes out by the cd changer wiring

I can get you a pic of the boot side if you wish
