HELP - Installing Subwoofer on Business Radio System

Do I used the blade connectors from Halfords to connect the Celsus to the back of the radio?

I suppose the next problem is to find out how to remove the central dash (under the handbrake etc) so that I can run the cable through there? Or maybe I could run the cable under the passenger floormat and through to the boot somewhere - any ideas?

Do the blade connectors clip onto the existing wire without the need of cutting the existing speaker wire?

Thanks

the blade connectors would be used to connect the celsus.. yes.

basically, you lay the existing cable (not cut or anything.. just exactly how it is now) in one groove of the connector, and the wire from the celsus in the other groove, then close the lid.

as you close the lid, a blade (hence the name ;)) will slice into both wires, creating a circuit across them. no need for solder / cutting / terminal blocks.

Also, I dont think you need to remove the center console (from what I can see). Just take out the ashtray switch block (theres a guide on here, but it is just one screw), lift out the gearstick gator, and the handbrake armrest and gator. this'll give you more than enough room to feed the cable down I'd suspect...

I just ran my cables down the side of the car and through the cubby holes where the subs would be. Very easy this way as theres holes behind the cubby holes to gain access to the boot.

When you say the side of the car, do you mean under the floormat, the passenger chair and then up through the cubby hole? Have you got any pictures?

Thanks

Sorry no pics, but i removed the plastic tray under the glovebox, 2 screws one either side. Then pull up the trim that runs along the bottom of the door. This reveals a screw to remove so you can remove the kick panel(speaker grill) which is one other screw i think with a couple clips.

You can then run the cable along here and under the rear trim behind the cubby hole.

Well I have been to Halfords and bought the blade connectors, just need to order the Celsus now! What would be easiest route, under the trim on the door (un1eash option) or running it through and down the central dashboard?

un1eash's sounds the easiest.. it is only one set of RCAs, and he's done it... whilst I've never done it in the zed, and also have no idea if there are any complications to be found going down the center console route.

Okay then, thanks for the advice. Just ordered the Celcus adaptor from Car Audio Direct... Should be here before xmas :) From the image there appears to be 5 seperate wires coming from the box, are all of these for the left and right speakers?

the green, brown, grey and black all connect to the left and right speakers.
No idea what the blue one's about...

Some have 5 wires, others have 4. The celsus one i got the other week from caraudiodirect was 4 wires. The extra wire is just an earth. The good thing about the celsus adaptors aswell is they are adjustable and over the years of using different adaptors they seem to give the best results.

Do the the green, brown, grey and black cables from the Celsus all correspond to the colours of the wires from the back of the radio? (do they marry up). Without using an ampmeter to signify which cable on the radio is the left or right speaker, anyone know which cables I need to connect to?

Many Thanks

set your stereo to left read speaker only, then connect an ammeter to the back of the stereo and check for signal ;)
then do the same for rear right
or... look for a pinout for the stereo.

(hint: there might be one already posted on this thread)

as I said... look back at my earlier posts in this thread. I posted a link to a pinout :headbang:

the colours won't match up at all tho :(

Just to confirm on the installation of my subwoofer into the Z4 - I ended up buying an adaptor from these guys http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop.php?action=productshow&id=632 Plugged it into the back of the Business Radio and worked a treat.

No need to splice wires (which I found out was very hit and miss)....... If anyone is thinking of adding an amp or subwoofer to their Z4 then go to New Mini Stuff :D

this sounds interesting did you take any pics of the installation?
"A plug & play solution for those that want to add an amplifier to their factory stereo without splicing the wires. Features 1 or 2 pairs of RCA connectors & also a power turn on cable to turn on the amp."

I will take some photographs of the sub in the boot and post them on here..... (hopefully).....

I can't recommend the adaptor from New Mini Stuff enough! It comes with two RCA outputs and a REM, all prewired, so all you have to do it clip it all together
Run the wires down the back of the dashboard behind the radio.
Run the wires under the passenger seat.
Cut a small hole in the cubby hole behind the passenger seat
Run the wires to the boot
Earth the amp and sub to the negative on the battery and connect the power lead to the positive on the battery.

Subwoofer in a Z4 - DONE!
