HELP Idle issues

New member
I recently bought a 2005 , 2.0 Z4 , 60,000 miles on the clock

Within days the timing chain went and the dealer replaced it FOC but the idle was not quite right (it may never have been )so returned it and he checked for leaks , no issues, so reset the Vanos unit and there was a small improvement but the problem will not go away .

it hunts on idle and when driving slow in traffic , i.e hardly touching the throttle it slightly surges.

when you put your foot down she drives sweetly

(the dealer has now gone out of business)

anyone have any ideas ?

I can drive as is and not sure it is worth spending a lot of money on unless someone feels I could be damaging the car

Thanks

Maybe the VVT motor?

Mine sometimes hunts when it's cold and I think that it is trying to optimise the mixture when this happens... perhaps clearing the VVT adaptations might help

Yep, try clearing Valvetronic motor adaptions in INPA first. If that doesn’t fix it, time for a new motor.

My advice is to use it.. Mine was like that til I gave it a few Italian tuneups
It's lack of use... Give it a thrashing.

If you need a new motor I have one that has done 14,000 miles for-sale :poke:

Purchased from BMW for £279, which I believe was the trade price as a friend owns a garage :)

I'm inclined to agree, mine's not too good at the moment but I think that's because it's not been used much over the past 4 months

I hope that helps OP!

Anyway, welcome to the forum.
