Help identifying error code from INPA diagnosis

Not sure what that refers to...

I didn't get much time to do stuff on my fault last night, but I did download some files although I'm unsure if they're the whole INPA package or an update - I'll PM/email you sp3ctre

Well, I *think* I may have sorted it...

Decided I was best to swap out any bits from my newly acquired seats in case they were triggering hte airbag light. By that I mean the seatbelt pretensioners. So I removed the seats, swapped the pretensioners from spare ones I'd removed from a pre-facelight set of seats, reconnected the wiring plugs, and had a check over of the wiring..........

......and that's when I found a single connector wasn't fully pushed in

So, I reinstalled the seats, reconnected the battery, and fired up my INPA. Cleared the fault code and fault memory, etc. and the airbag light is currently off. Possible success :)

My final test to see if it's all working as it should is to take it out for a drive with a weight on the passenger seat to test the response from the occupancy mat (I'd expect the setbelt alarm to chime at me). However, I managed to shear off the bolt that secures the clamp around the positive terminal on the battery so don't want to risk driving anywhere until I've got a replacement. Here's hoping Halfords come up with a replacement...

That's great news - so swapping the seats resolved the issue, if not quite as expected. Good to hear it's sorted - sure all will be fine now.

And now you have the software etc and knowledge to work on the car as well... these little problems are a hassle, but there if there's something learned along the way, it makes it a little less painful.

FFS why is NOTHING ever straightforward...

Searching online for the part brings up stories of the small battery clamp not being available on it's own, and involves buying a whole negative cable @ $20: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-discussion/130892-mystery-battery-bolt.html

I might go with a modifying-the-bolt suggestion as made in that thread: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-discussion/130892-mystery-battery-bolt-2.html#post1902062

Glad it seems to be getting sorted a11y... I got me "proper" cable today and fired it up to read the error memory... this time I got this:

airbag.jpg

Not quite sure with it saying that how my airbag light is staying off???

The only difference I can see between my error and yours above is mine was "error present" while yours is "sporadic error" - perhaps there is still something strange going on with whatever caused your airbag light to come on. Although like you say, why is the light staying off???

I did a quick 10-mile round trip this evening and - after promising i'd drive carefully while my wife acted as "ballast" and unclipped her seatbelt - everything seems to be OK. Airbag light still off, all seat heating working, and my transplanted occupancy mat is functioning as it should.

Longer drive tomorrow :)

Edit to add that I sorted my sheared battery bolt like THIS
