Help help.. Drivers door lock dropped into door

So my first real problem in the z4, the key doesn't remotely work the central locking so up until now I've been using the lock in the door for opening and closing the car.

However today I went to use the key and to my horror it just turns (360) and the barrel has dropped into the car by about an inch.

Took the door panel off and found a pin in the bottom but have no idea where it fits or if there's a clip I'm looking for etc.

If anyone has an image of the lock working (so I can see where this part is from) or can advise me what's gone wrong I'd be most grateful :)

Thanks

Chris

Was it just the plastic pin you found? It attaches onto a length of metal about 3mm thick that should swing round 360. It'll no doubt be hanging down. It's a few inches long.

Once the pin is reattached you can direct it through the hole on the door panel web you reattach that

EDIT: After a re-read I think you're possibly talking about he whole bar falling through and not just the tip. Sorry

The door lock is held in with a small circular clip thing, from what I've seen on realoem.

I have the same problem, but haven't managed to get in there to fix it yet.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I've narrowed it down slightly. Got the outer handle off and can see the clip that realoem says but that one is fine, It's inside the barrel that broken.

So it leads me to my next question - how do I go about removing the barrel as the two torx that seems to be holding the plastic in appear to be so tight they're impossible to move?
