HELP had an accident, need advice

Hardtop is safely stored in my garage now so that's a bonus but the roof wouldn't shut on its own so had to do that manually. Spoken to my insurance who are saying from my description they are pretty certain it's a total loss.

Had a call from the RAC this morning (they recovered the car back to my house last night) saying don't go through my insurance as I'm an RAC member they will handle it for me and make sure I get a better hire car look after everything for me and make sure the claim goes smoothly. Anyone used this service?

I would maybe just check the Terms of it, as the third party claims handlers often pass on the bill to the insurers who need to agree with it (please someone correct me if I'm wrong ... I'm no insurance guru, but speakin from previous experiences). However that said, it is going to be passed onto the van driver's insurance so it might make the process smoother.

Won't rac deal with the van drivers insurance direct as it was clearly him at fault anyway?
 
We're all hoping it's not a write off.

If it's not a write off you should get onto the eBay to price the panels.

Bootlid £60

Hinges £20 each

Rear wings £100 each

Rear bumper £100.

You'd need to get them all resprayed though!

Suppose it all depends on whether there's any structural damage underneath and if the chasis is still straight.

All behind the bumper and boot floor will be screwed too I'd expect

Certainly looks like it doesn't it. Was trying to look on the bright side!

It does mean that 85genius can now look for a 3.0 or 3.0si with a bit of luck and quick payout if it is written off. :thumbsup:

Unfortunately you are absolutely right! Very upsetting but what was a very good car is now ruined :cry: serosly upsetting but I know it's just one of them things that happens



Gutted but hopefully I will find the right car as a replacement.....

Work over the next couple of weekends......

fingers crossed you source a new car and get it back up to a standard with all the extras you are happy with and look back at this in a years time and look at it as an upgrade....

To be honest mate when I first got out of the car and saw it yeah I was shocked but first impressions were new bumper and boot lid and a bit of paint and it'll be fine.

Unfortunately not so... Just waiting on the engineers report to be told the almost inevitable then I can start looking properly and making phonecards about a replacement...

Problem I have now is I know my Zs when I bought that one it was the first one I took for a test drive and I fell in love with it didn't care about options so long as the roof came off and it had a steering wheel. There's absolutely no way I could take a spec downgrade and even finding another with the same specs I don't think would feel tight as it's not my car..

Now I've seen every one else's Zs I know what I'm looking for so an upgrade that ticks my now list of boxes is going to be hard to find. Just want the insurance yo put me out of my misery so I can get on with it.

Exactly, initially thought I would stick with prefacelift and go for a 3.0 but couldn't see anything for sale with everything I wanted so pretty much decided to upgrade to at least an SI but again not much on the market.... Alpina there are a few for sale and whilst its a lot more money and would mean some sort of finance to fund it I'm thinking with the miles I do there wont be anywhere near as much depreciation as on a standard Z so its looking attractive.... I also like the M but put off because of potential maintenance costs especially if I'll already be paying finance on it...

Actually did have a look into E89 pricing but I have a feeling it will depreciate more than any of the above options so dont fancy taking a few grand finance against it so in my price range its a 23i which just doesn't seem enough of an upgrade from an e85 2.5 and whilst it might be a more comfortable cruiser I loved the focused drive of the early Z.... I may still go mad and buy one of them,

TBH I've even considered a MK2 TT V6 as an option just because there seem to be more around so easier to find a good one but think after the new car novelty wore off I'd regret not having a Z.

It is interesting looking for new cars and reading up on them and all but really not a position I wanted to be in especially when I had my Vanos and Disa rebuild, CCV replacement, service and a new battery all in the last 2 months :headbang:

Quick update, had a call to say the engineers report says its definitely a write off, :cry: should be given a valuation in the next couple of days then its just waiting for a payout.

And the main thing they said I could transfer my plate so that was done and dusted in the space of 5 minutes on the DVLA website so it's now back on a retention certificate, bloody big relief as I would have hated to lose it and I think my dad would have killed me if I'd lost his dads plate a he had it on all his cars whilst he was still driving.... Have to say I'm impressed by how simple the number plate retention process now is with it all automated online but not so much with the £80 fee which I won't be getting back, especially when it used to be about £25....

Hopefully I'll have this all settled soon so I can properly start looking at a replacement..

Don't know if I dare say this but.... Interestingly after driving a hire car for a couple of days with a DSG box and flappy paddles I'm actually considering that as an option for my next car, (I know the Z box isn't DSG but seems to get high praise on here) never had or even considered an auto before but so much easier in traffic. But the wierdest thing for me is that shifting with paddles on the steering wheel actually feels so much more satisfying than using a clutch and stick somehow makes it feel like more of a proper sports car..... Maybe its just a novelty factor that will wear off, honestly no idea really but will have a week or so to live with this before I have to start making a real decision, I do feel like a bit of a traitor for even considering ditching the manual shift though.
 
Interesting observations regarding paddle shifting. Glad you've sorted your plate retention, I guess its nail biting time now waiting for the valuation. Others on here have said you shouldn't accept the first offer, although I did when my Mondeo ST was written off.
