Help for sat nav parts needed for retrofit

Hi all

As you maybe aware I’m planning to do a satnav retrofit.

I’ve so far managed to get the screen, and the mark 4 gps unit. (I will be buying the wiring loom from bmw and ariel from eBay)

I haven’t yet managed to track down a reasonably priced radio, even on international eBay, or breakers. I am also missing the cover plate that sits on the back of the screen that hides the screws.

Lastly what did everyone else do about the fittings, screws clips etc. As so far I haven’t received any with the screen or gps unit.

Any help would tracking down parts would be much appreciated.

MKIV fits in existing system, no need to have screws as that just slides in.

Missing cover part - a few pound from the dealer.

about £8 from memory and a SatNav manual around £10 iirc

Also if you havent got factory Bluetooth you will need a black plastic plug for the headunit, I have the part number somewhere if you need it.

You don't want to do that as it is over £700 new ...

I pointed another member to a US radio, which was just over £100 from memory.

Hideous expensive one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-X3-Z4-CID-Bedienteil-Radio-Prof-MP3-CD-TMC-/230484947347?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Technik_Auto_Hi_Fi_Navigation_Einbau_Navigationssysteme&hash=item35a9f93193

Yeh I've seen that one plus another in uk for £250 but still seems expensive for second hand. Bought screen from poland and it was in a right state sent it back and it looks like they have sent me a new one after a few emails. So a bit relucant to get second hand again unless its returnable.

Bought Harness, template and the trim piece for the back of the screen, all off Jo Soper. Very friendly service over the phone very rare these days. Just the radio to go. :)

Sounds like a major project to me :) and quite expensive :!:

I am happy with my TomTom neatly tugged in position where the ashtray used to be (I don't miss the ashtray now since I stopped the habit some years ago). My TomTom is then powered from the power source directly under the glove compartment with only 2 inches of cable visible. A nice lady voice tells me when to turn :) and I am quite happy with it.

Mind you the factory Navi looks cool .... any feedback as to the total cost to install and program it all? Does one have to install the iDrive and Navi or can one only install the Navi? Just wondering, since I plan to keep my baby for a very long time.

No idrive in the Z4 (E85) full stop. Sat Nav doesnt need programming either. Cost in the UK to source parts from ebay/dealer £500-£600
