Help...first a new roof motor....

And now, 5000 miles later, the stealer is saying the hydraulic pipes need replacing! £900. How much more can a roof cost me?

My real question is, while this work is being done should I be protecting myself for the future by asking the dealer to do anything else whilst the roof is off?

Have read where hydraulic leaks at the actuators that actually move the roof into position are starting to cause failures on the older cars. I'd check to see if it's the actuators vice the hydraulic lines to them that they quoted for repair.

The pipes they say are leaking are part of the main motor which lifts the roof from fully open. The car is 2007 face lift model 2.5si with only 17k on the clock. Seems early failure to me!
 
The drain plugs under the sideskirts? The only real fix I've heard mentioned is removing them cimpletely.

I removed mine and a whole load of gunk fell out.
 
After removing the plugs try to vacuum the gunk from below using some sort of reducer to vacuum hose. Then slowly flush with some water while watching to see that it flows down....to flush the lines of any remaining crud....

There are some really good posts on this forum for protecting yourself against a drowned roof motor. I've recently done mine and when I took the roof off I found the motor in a puddle that was half filling the chamber where it sits. There was a blockage that cleared very easily but I also drilled the drain holes bigger and rodded downwards with a washing line to check there was no further blockage. I also got underneath the car and located the drain hole exits - here I was able to completely remove the rubber grommets which can get kakked up - my local indi does this too! Finally checked the drainage by running a couple of jugs of water through to check everything was OK.

The motor casing is now resealed like in Shipkillers guide and I am going to regularly check that water runs down the side of the roof and then makes a puddle under the car!
