Hi,

It kills me to say it but my engine management light came on yesterday..
Thanks to my good mate i have had his diagnostic machine plugged in and have a P0012 "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded fault.
Now i am hoping that its just a sensor but it may be more sinister.
Does anyone know of a garage that can quote me a repair without making me pay £100 for them to tell me the fault?

Help a brother out

cheers

Usually related to the VANOS solenoid. Mine also came up with VANOS mechanically jammed. Home many miles do you have on it? The BMW test process is to swap the solenoids over and see if the fault moves. You can try that first or give them a clean (though I expect that not to last). If you have to replace they are £80 ish new - one bolt and a connector off - push fit.

Iv only got 72k miles on the clock.
Id much rather replace them my self first.

Still runs fine, although im not going to drive until I've changed the parta.

Scooba steve you legend.

Around the time one of mine went. Swap them over first because it might not be the solenoid. More than likely it is. Did you have any other symptoms?
