Hard to know for sure without pulling the codes, where about are you in the UK ?

Could be the TPS - http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316095

It could be the fuel pump having issues, are you parked on a hill ? ( I see the fuel gauge is low ... )

how do i pull off the codes ?

yeah it's not turning over but the radio came on and the central locking worked.

No not on a hill

strange though , the car sat outside work for 8 hours then I drove home and got changed, get back in it then it doesnt start , maybe it didn't like my outfit :D bizarre

I live in Romford , Essex

I suppose the battery is 5 years old , how would I know if it's the battery that needs replacing ?

Shall I go out and try turning the car over again or will that cause damage ?

"Shouldn't" cause any damage by trying to turn it over. I would have expected a charging ( battery ) light if the alternator had gone. Heads up I wouldn't recommend buying a battery from the AA if thats what they say it is - there usually VERY overpriced.

When you turn the key do the dash lights dim ?

Post back if they find out what it is.... its weird because from the picture its even up to temperature, so you didnt leave it for very long.

Pulling the codes required an OBDII reader. ( Hence asking where abouts u are - I have one and if you were "down the road" could lend one ;-) .... )

AA BREAK DOWN REPORT

Starter motor fault - Just about got to wiring on starter - moved as best as poss , car started.

Connections onto starter need checking and cleaning.

So, the AA guy had his fingers on the starter motor and asked me to turn the ignition , it started. he then said the wires just need the once over. I then put the car back in the garage , I turned the ignition off then on again and it started, strange.

I wonder if there is a guy in Essex that could just look at the wires for me ? tMy garage is a massive so plenty of room to work on it, can anyone recommend some one ?

cheers
