A bit of a long shot but from what I have gathered there are a lot of IT/electronics whizzes in here.

Is there such a thing as an electronic microswitch that can be programmed to raise/drop when prompted?

The kind of switch i am refering to is as per the following link (but looking for something much shorter) http://media.digikey.com/photos/CK%20Comp%20Photos/8631ZQD2.jpg

A bit of a vague question I know but just interested to know.

Cheers

Matt

I don't think you want a micro switch if you want something to raise and lower on command.

Is there a device on the market that can offer such a function ?

Programmed to raise and drop when prompted? Surely you mean a remote controlled solenoid? So wouldn't an after-market Remote Central Locking module work? Like this...

Thats kind of what i am looking for. Im guessing the part I am looking for is an actuator? Bear with me, I am not an electornics minded person !!!

Far to early to say at this stage. However there will be a pint in it for the best solution (redeemable at the next run whenever that will be)

Prompted by what?
a human making a decision, or based on a sensor reacting to temperature, amount of light, motion detector....

Have you read the book "Daemon"?

Nicko - when prompted by human interaction (possibly the press of a button or something along the lines if a fingerprint reader).

Daemon ------- good book 

Nicko - operated by human interface via a button or possibly a fingerprint reader.

Daemon ----- not read it but have read good reviews 

From a heating point of view we use zone valves with a synchron motor that closes and opens a ball valve to allow water through but the valve also incorporates an end switch that also powers boiler, pump etc
