[HELP] E89 Z4 Headlight Bulbs

Hi all,

I've been doing a bit of browsing on the forum about bulbs, but have a few questions I was hoping someone could help with :D

My father has an E89 with Xenons for dipped and full beam and halogen DRL.

The passenger side DRLs have malfunctioned (I presume a blown bulb), and it has sparked an interest in brightening the current xenons too.

So, he'd like to achieve the following:

  • Change the angel eyes from halogen to LEDs for better brightness and bluer white
  • Upgrade the xenons for better dipped and full beam visibility

Questions

1. After some research, it seems the best LEDs for the angel eyes are MTEC: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MTEC-MARUTA-H8-26w-V-4-Cree-LED-Bmw-Angel-Eyes-e82-e87-e90-LCI-e92-e93-X1-X5-6/273858633533

Is this still the case?

2. Does the full beam and dipped beam use the same bulb? I.e. how many bulbs would you need to replace all of the xenons?

3. Which xenons would you recommend to better brightness and visibility? Ideally 5000k

Thanks in advance :-)

Main headlamps Xenon.
Philips Xenon X-treme Vision gen2 HID Car Headlight Bulb D1S (Single) 85415XV2C1
Need to buy pair.
Pricey £50 each, but really bright.
I fitted no regrets.
Keep in mind, dipped has a really sharp cut off so you don't get the same fuzzy spread as you get from halogens.
Need to be adjusted just enough not to annoy other drivers.

I'm not happy with the factory bulbs either
thanks for sharing

As in two sets of them? Is that because each headlamp unit requires 1 for the dipped and 1 for main?
One per headlight, so two bulbs.
Dip is just a shutter that blocks out the one half, half the reason why the cut off is so sharp, together with the narrow light frequency.

Perfect - exactly the explanation I was looking for :-)
