I drove over 1100m in 20rs in a C Class estate 16-17 yrs ago , no issues : day after wouldn't start . breakdown cover lowloadered into Beziers MB .
3 days later rang me to say its running perfectly : equivalent then of £300 in Francs , when i went to collect the invoice basically said "couldn't find any issue , car ok " :P

Was also charged almost 500eur to diagnose & repair "engine fault " on a 1.8T VW passat that i limped into local garage in Normandy .
They had it 4 days , when i translated the bill it was basically
diagnostic report fault
1 new coil pack supplied
diagnostic report no fault
- test drive
labour
TVA  a £100 job ?

I’ll say €375.00 and that doesn’t include the cost of the hire car or the removal of the wheel clamp

Yep, I'm only saying what BMW are charging me. I mean if we really want to get into it, here's what I've spent so far. All prices listed in euros
150 - New Battery
180 - Locksmith to get into the car
160 - Top of the range jump pack
280 - Recovery from hotel car park to BMW (10 min journey)
460 - Car hire
130 - Wheel clamp removal (although to be fair the Z4 would have gotten the same treatment from the lovely guys at Lisbon Council)
I'm not gonna count the cost of the extra nights in the hotel in Rouen trying to sort it as I would have spent the same getting to Madrid if the car had been ok.
Blimey I'm not as chipper as I was when I started to write this reply

2000 Euros is my estimate because I am a bit suspicious of BMW. And it that was my car it would already be in the Autotrader!

 Trust me a can of petrol and a box of matches went through my mind in the darkest hours...

I would have pushed it over the cliff but the handbrake sticking on would have been a problem!

 don't forget the steering lock was also on so you'd have to be a bloody good aim, and you'd have to bring your mates, it was in an underground carpark remeber

A couple of these from "Le Screwfix" a can of Redbull and a bit of rear wheel steering and the bitch would be up the ramp in no time! Screenshot 2023-11-29 at 22-01-18 Hilka Pro-Craft 400kg Wheel Dollies 2 Pack - Screwfix.png

The only cost I think was completely worth it was the recovery guy having to use exactly that, then having to negotiate the tow truck down a further 2 floors (I was one -1) to level -3, delicately manouvering round incredibly tight turns (2 per floor), inching the remote front 2 wheels of my car up a tad, down a tad, back a tad, forward a tad, reversing his tow truck back and forth here and there an inch or two. And then having to do it all over again as we made our way up to the exit. He did an incredible job. I gave him an extra 20 euros for a drink so he could add a vodka to the red bull. Top bloke.

I'm going with 1500 euros, as you are British (I Presume) and we all know the frogs hate us as much as we hate them.

If you had ridden off on a dirty old pushbike with a string of onions around your neck, stinking of garlic and gayly smoking a Gitanes, they would have charged about 300. :D

Ouch. :o

That was more painful than I thought, but I suppose it could have been worse.

And you've had an unforgettable trip!
