Hi all, I own a 2005 Z4 3.0i (MANUAL ) and the drivers side door will not unluck with the key( it only unlocks from inside). The dealer here in Greece told me that I need to change the GM5 MODULE and the part number is: 61359116445. The car is a US model, and they quoted me a price of €450. As I looked around, no one seems to know if there is ONLY one type of module for my Z4…Some have claimed that there are differences between the UK model, the US model and the European model, but no one is for sure… I have found some used ones online for a fraction of the price that the dealer quoted me. Does anyone know if there are differences between the modules? For instance, can I go ahead and order a used one from the UK for my US model? Any input would be much appreciated!!!! Thanks!

Hi, it would be a good idea but the dealer just ran a diagnostic. When i took the car there 4 days ago, they told be that the source of the problem is a failed door rotor. They quoted me a price of €150 part and installation. But after they installed it, the door would still not open! Then they called me yesterday and told me that both rotoe and module have to be replaced with total price of €550... I told them i would think about it and took my car and left (off course, they did not charge me anything)

I had this exact problem and my dealer also diagnosed the door actuator which did not fix the problem.

The fault is actually with the relays inside the gm5 (also called general module or ZKE module)

You can either buy the relays and replace them yourself or send your gm5 away (its behind the glovebox) to have the relays replaced (what I did) see the website www.bmwgm5.com for details. I paid £35gbp (about €30) for the fix.

If you look on eBay for gm5 repair there are people in the uk who can do the repair and you may be able to find someone in Greece but I don't know...

Good luck & hope this helps.

(ps if you buy a used gm5 it will need to be coded to the car by a dealer so I would repair the one you have)

Thank you all for your input to this nasty problem! Also, does ANY ONE know if there are any differences on the module between the US model and the UK and European model?? I have asked almost everyone and no one seems to know, even dealers! I have noticed that there are many differences (besides the S.N) on the 'sticker' on the side of the module that seems confusing.. Does anyone know? Thanks

All Zeds use the same GM5 module. There's something like 7 different versions, each has different firmware and hence different part numbers. The number you quoted is the latest, correct version. I don't know if you could buy one from a breaker from a '03 Zed and put it in an '08, but it will work the other way around.

You should seriously consider Zedpete's advice, the problem is almost certainly a problem with relays, the rest of the module is probably fine.
