Help, creaky roof!

For the last couple of months i've been experiencing an annoying creak which is more of a rattle when going over bumpy roads. It's in the area behind the passenger headrest so I assumed it was the plastic rollhoops and they just needed a bit of massaging back into place, however nothing has worked.

Tonight I found an extra bumpy concrete road to drive over with the roof down at low speeds to hear it without too much wind noise. No creak whatsoever. So it has to be either something in the roof mechanism or something around the parcel shelf area which gets muffled with the roof folded on top of it.

Apologies for being incredibly vague but that's all I can desribe. It's annoying me so much that i might even take it (and some ass-lube) to a main dealer to fix. Had the car 3 years and (despite many other rattles) haven't experienced this particular one before.

Any help?

Thanks you

I have a similar rattle behind driver, goes after a while but very annoying any one with any ideas, only had the car a month so might take it back to the stealers as under warranty.
Not tired it with roof down as weather been not great since I noticed it.

We had an issue with passenger seat headrest hitting roll hoops- noticed leather slightly worn from previous rubbing...only solution is to be 1cm further forward. Interestingly not a problem on drivers side?

I had a rattle behind my left ear (US Left Hand Drive). Some Google searching suggested that applying grease to the the door latch mechanism was the answer...I was skeptical but I opened the door and stuffed some white lithium into the latch mechanism and the rattle is gone. Easy enough to give it a try, the latches won't suffer with a bit of grease.

I might have cracked the mystery, i found a piece of plastic had got wedged between the parcel shelf and the top of the roof motor housing. Any idea what this is from?

I can still hear a bit of a creak but it's much quieter and coming more from the centre of the bulkhead between the two headrests.

From memory, I think this is one of the clips that holds the soft top shelf in place. There should be two on each side. Looks like one has come off.

The creak coming from between the headrests is likely the plastic release mechanism above the center storage area. Remove the plastic cover for the manual top release (just above the center console) and put a light coat of grease on the plastic pads that contact each other or use some teflon spray. I did this and mine is now quiet. This thread will help you with removal of the panel:
