I'm having issues with bmw warranty agreeing with rust inside tailgate being covered, has anyone else had this and have they sorted it for you ? Need some ammo to go back to them with

There's a few of us coupe owners that have had the same problem.

Mine was about 1" circle of corrosion (bubbling under the paintwork) that was corrected without argument.

I've seen others on here where almost all of one side has been corroded.

Not heard of any issues with bodywork warranty claims on it.

Has it got a BMW history, and has it had any paintwork outside of the network (part of the inspection is a bodywork check)?

BMW history up to date, could you pm me your reg at all as there saying never heard of this problem before

Still struggling with this does anyone know if there is a complaints process/ appeals process

Is it the dealer refusing, or BMW warranty?

The paintwork/corrosion is covered under a 12-year bodywork warranty (on post-2004 cars IIRC), so if your local dealer isn't paying ball, then take it to another - preferably one that has it's own bodyshop.

There's a thread on Pistonheads with reference to a thread on here, but I can't find the thread on here.

I had mine repainted after a shunt but did not notice anything. HOWEVER: I've noticed there are a few manufactured holes on the tailgate / lid itselt on the in-car part which I thought strange. I thought they had forgotten to put backl some rubber bungs after repainting but the mechanic assures me it for condensation or water to run out :|

Could you guys have a check on yours and let me know please?

Mine was in almost exactly the same position, but on the opposite side of the tailgate.

They have had the trim off and looked inside and no corrosion in there
There's no corrosion on the rest of the hatch either, but that's not the issue.

The only way they can not pay out is if they decide you've caused it through neglect or abuse. As you haven't (as it's where some of the water from the drain sits), it's probably a design flaw.

I'd start drafting a letter to the DP and BMW UK and see where that gets you - unless you've got another dealer (of a different franchise group) within a reasonable distance you can go to for a 2nd opinion, as the dealers have limits on how much warranty work they can carry out, and they might simply be refusing it so that you pay them for the job at greatly-inflated retail prices.

Find the threads on here and either print them off or give the dealer the links, they won't be able to hide their heads in the sand then.
