Help buying a new TV please

ive got a 50" panasonic vt30 plasma, i've always stuck with panasonic as have had great picture from them over the last 3 sets since 2006. I wanted to get a samsung LED with the thin bezel D8000 i think it was, but having watched a few demo sets, the picture seemed really unnatural so stuck with the panasonic. I have 3D on mine and would say dont bother with it. the problem is the content as much as the technology, theres not enough worth bothering with. You use it frequently for the first couple of weeks and then i never touch it, apart from on the xbox with call of duty.... then its quality... 
I would say i find the picture quality much more natural on the plasma's. I think as long as you go with 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080) and not "HD Ready" which seems to be 1366 x 768 and you are personally happy with the picture on demo sets to go with it as fairly future proof for a while. problem with demo sets is they are never setup right in terms of colour/contrast/sharpness etc., so you need to tinker yourself with the models you are considering. Also check the picture is uniform all the way across, some LED's and LCD's suffer with backlight bleed where on say a dark background, patches of the backlight shine through, this is one of the reasons i went with plasma.
£700 should get you a decent set IMO. I always buy the previous years model as still pretty current but a load of £££ cheaper than the latest and greatest.

Apologies I have t read the whole thread and I left my ipad I the car (not going back out there again and the phone screen is too small!) but I have a Panasonic TX-P50VT20 and its flipping awesome!
I love it and wouldn't change it for anything other than the latest Panasonic plasma. It's got a few hours on it now, been calibrated and blows other sets away entirely. The latest Panasonic plasmas look even better, that's where my money would go. There are the latest 2013 sets due soon, so should be able to get some good deals Inge 2012 ones.

Im a TV broadcast engineer and in my experience they're all so bloody good now that as long your rocking 1080p your dandy. Plasma is a bit heavy on your leccy bill but does have a slight bit more depth and better contrast. Your eyes aren't good enough to notice most of the time though.
The real notable difference is the signal your putting in. then where your sitting, how tired your eyes are and how much natural light is in the room. Those things give more change than LED vs Plasma.
