HELP! Anyone had any problems with a 2.5 starting up

Hi All

I have a Z 2.5 and she has developed a rather unusual problem..

The problem is intermittent and the car has been into BMW and shown no error codes :headbang: .

I'm no techi so this is my best effort to describe it. When it starts it splutters and runs very lumpy and runs at under idle revs for 5 seconds and then picks up and runs as normal... The car drives absolutely fine there after .. This is happens on both hot and cold starts and as mentioned is completely intermittent.. The rest of the time she starts fine..

I have had one theory that it might be a leaking injector but has anyone else had a problem like this ... or more importantly knows the remedy ??

Never had any issues with mine. Not sure about the leaking injector?

There was a thread the other day where someone found an "issue" with idle revs after blipping the throttle... someone suggested the anti-stall kicking in - I wonder if it's doing the opposite with your on startup?

You haven't almost run out of fuel recently have you? Could have contributed to clogging somewhere as Rudd suggested.

Cheers chaps,

Clogged filter sounds alot cheaper than a broken injector so will pursure that one for sure...

I did run her right into the red (fuel wise) the other day so that makes a great deal of sense...

thanks !

Yeah id look at the fuel side of things, best starting with the filter. If theres any clogging, it is likely that some top-end power could be lost also. If so the car is likely running lean, which can be very dangerous.

You can easily check for a flooding cylinder by removing the spark plugs and smelling the cylinder, looking down with a torch or dipping a rag in there (dont loose it!!). While youre at it, check the plugs colour to indicate any possible rich/lean running across all 6. Just giving the exhaust a very quick whiff can indicate any overfuelling on startup (preferably on a warm start).

While youre at it, id probably try a fresh tank of Super Unleaded and reset the ECU (you can do this by leaving the battery off for 20mins, however it will reset clocks etc.)
