HELP: Another Roof Thread

OK, so I've tried searching, but there's so many results I can't find what I want.

Last night it was lovely and brisk/clear, so I decided to put the roof down, it had a bit of a fight, but went down. Then, I came to get out, and it wouldn't come back up.

I pulled the cable in the boot and put it back manually, but today, there's no life in the bugger.

I just need to know what I've broken if that's possible from the symptoms?

Current it:

-Unlatches just fine and moves about 1", maybe less.

-Then nothing, no noise.

-Very occasionally, it'll make a little noise and the roof will try to move, but will jerk (a real tiny bit) and give up.

So, is it just my roof motor? If so I'll be going all DIY and removing the roof to see if I can clean the motor up.

Thanks in advance lovely people.

Exactly the same as mine..........I'm pretty sure it's the motor.

A failed micro switch means nothing whatsoever on the button, so the unlatching means it's not that.

I've been manually opening/closing mine since mid summer, down to around 20 secs either way, although it is a tad heavy when closing.

Job for early next year.

Cheers

Cheers mate, yeah I think the motor has snuffed it. Which is weird considering it's been operating 100% for ages now.

I'll pull it apart in the coming weeks, see if I can get my motor working, and seal it all up good and proper.

sounds like the motor - could also be fluid leak if you are hearing something trying to work ....

Have you checked that you've reseated the pull cord in the boot properly?

I was worried about that, as it doesn't seem to "pull" itself back into position really? I've clipped it back in, yes, but I'm not too convinced.

Chris, I can't hear anything trying to work now, it unlatches and is dead. Like 100% dead.

Mine too had been fine.........worked perfectly for the three years I owned it, then one day it was a bit off song going back up. The following day nowt, just the unlatching.

Good luck

I was pretty careful too, checking the drains at least 4 times a year and actually clearing them twice yearly, pre winter and pre summer.

Good luck

Nothing to do with the parcel shelf switch? Mine had tryed to open then stopped. I had forgotten that I lift it up a few days prior. Proper crapped myself thinking it had just died

even if it were fluid, I suspect the fix is the same - remove roof to get to the motor

Sounds exactly like the symptoms mine had - was the motor that failed and had to get it replaced.
