I have a had a funny clonking noise coming from the front passenger side of my car, I assumed it was the spring hitting against the metal foot of the shock as the rubber cup that the spring sits in was split! Well this has been replaced but the sound is still there!! Also not sure weather this is unrelated but the bonnet release in the car has stopped working!! Any suggestions on how to resolve this?!
Thank you
Zach

The bonnet release is quite a common problem.
Get someone to press on the front of the bonnet as you pull the lever.
If that works grease the catch or spray it with a lubricant after you have opened it.

Try tightening the OEM strut braces that run from the strut towers to the firewall. Mine used to creak like mad and a quarter of a turn was enough to cure it.

Seems most likely some sort of suspension defect, were the other components checked when the spring pad was replaced? Could it be a different corner? The direction from which a sound is coming can be deceptive. My other thought is a broken motor mount, I vaguely recall this being an issue on some sort of BMW, but not sure which model. Might be worth checking in any case.

If you can't open it, don't damage the bonnet by pushing down too hard, you can spray WD40 or a PTFE lube on the mechanism through the kidney grill, and with a little gentle pulling down and out, the kidney grills come out quite easily

+1 I had random clonking noises on mine, dealer replaced two front wishbone bushes but the noise remained. I re-tightend the oem strutbrace nuts (2 at the firewall and one at each strut tower) to 45foot pounds and the noises disappeared.

Guys thank you for the replies I really appreciate it, I will try what you have suggested and let you know! And it's not the seat belt lol!
