Hello All
I'm looking for some advice
My Z4 3.0si went in for a replacement vacuum pump, which was change, but the BMW specialist garage. advised me that the top tensioner had snapped (see diagram), they advised me that I required the new oil chain guide guard cassette.
They advised that they have to drop the sump to change the guide cassette and change the oil and a new sump gasket.
My car was running perfectly fine, had to drive one hour and a 45mile trip beforehand to get to them.
They found after dropping the sump, the spring and broken part of the top tensioner and the Oil Pump retainer clip (which they could not identify) but I could after researching, together with an unidentified plastic part.
The garage are stating that the top tensioner was already broken, as they say its a high mileage car.
My question is if this were the case that
1, the top tensioner was already broken
2, The oil pump retainer clip was not in position (in the sump instead), including an unidentified plastic part (possibly from the timing chain guide)
3, All these items in the sump
I' would like to know would the car run properly or at all, would there be any symptoms, chain rattle etc etc etc.
The garage have fitted the the new Oil Chain guard, don't know if they change the chain or not, changed the oil and replaced the sump gasket.
They started and went for a short test drive, ran a bit rough, then parked it up for me to pick up.
On route, received a call stating call will now not start, and the diagnostic computer is stating timing errors.
They want to strip and see the problem.
Looking for advice on where i stand and where do I go from here.
Your words of wisdom and advice is sought
Sorry for the long story
