Help a new boy find the right e85/86!

Hi and welcome to the forum Jon, great into and I’m sure you’ll find a nice Z, I like the Maldives Blue one too 8) :driving:

Welcome to the forum, plenty of good advice here. You get plenty of bang for your buck with the Z4 and most issues can be sorted with forum help. The earlier cars are pre-wired, so you can plug and play.
Twitchy or sticky steering can be sorted as can dead roof motors, so don't let these put you off a decent car. :)

There is a nice one on the UK Z4 group on Facebook just in your budget. Can’t share the post from there but it’s a guy called James Lynch.

That looks stunning. I've applied to join the Facebook group. Thanks for pointing it out.

The blue does seem to suit it, doesn't it!

Power folding mirrors as well!! The one extra I’m missing on my car.

I love the blue, I really do but the titanium one is a 3.0!

So torn. I love the blue but it's a 2.5

Can the 2.5 be mapped for more power? :driving:

Everthing I've read says not really. As a NA engine the m54 is not ripe for mapping. There are gains to be made in driviabilty and some, albeit small, power gains.

if you prefer the blue, go with it.
don't be put off by it being a 2.5.
yes the 3.0 has more grunt, but the 2.5 is hardly slow.
I previously had the 3.2 tt and depending on the type of driving and roads, it will not spoil your fun having the 2.5.
plus you will find, a lot who say it has to be the 3.0, if they were being honest, would have no less fun in the 2.5.

Hi never driven the 3ltr but there’s plenty of poke in the 2.5 suppose it depends what and how you intend to do with your zed
Mine also has the cream interior which to me sets it off better than the black
But everybody’s got a different choice

Wow, went and saw James' car this afternoon. Unfortunately I couldn't drive it, its currently SORN'ed, but they really do look nice in the flesh and a great place to sit.

I do need to see how easily I get in and out on flat ground, his drive is very steep, but I think it will be fine. It did prove that the wheels are very much a personal choice though. Need to get a drive in one now.

Probably not even remotely helpful but.......

I will be offering my Z for sale in exactly 7 weeks, that’s when I retire and won’t need the Z anymore. It’s a 3.0SE, 2004 on 97k. Owned it for two years and it’s been absolutely fantastic to own. Prior to this car I had two brand new E89s and this has lost in 2years what they lost in 3months!

Now here’s my point, my Z is quick, has been pretty reliable (never let me done and needed only two ‘repairs’ in two years - both minor) averages 37mpg, costs under £160 to insure, looks pretty good for 14 years old and will be offered at £3750.

So I feel that within your budget you should be able to find an clean and tidy, reliable, quick and fairly well equipped car.

Good luck with your search

There's no such thing as bad advice. I've seen one car that might be perfect and I'm sure I'll see more.

OMG! Just had a ride in a 3.0, many many thanks to Chris Green from on here. So much want now! It answered the questions about getting in and out, that's fine, and the sound of the straight six. Wow!

Right, so mind made up, it’s definitely a Z4. Now just the right car to find!

It must have heated electric memory seats. The heated bit as I want to use it all year round but I've longed for electric memory seats ever since SWMBO started to drive and the joys of a 4'11" and 6'2" sharing a car became apparent! :D :D I'm not 100% it has to be a 3.0 but the 6 speed gearbox must make the motorway cruise a little cheaper. So a 3.0 preferred but the budget is still fixed at £3,500 to £4,000.
I love the darker colours. The Maldive and Monaco Blue are great, but some of the pictures of the Rose Black are stunning! As for the interior I love the Red leather, just looks soooooo nice!

I don’t really need it until the end of Jul so a little time for my search. The hunt is on…..

3.0 is the way to go IMO, and electric memory seats would definitely work well for you!

On pre-facelifts I really like Maldive Blue and Merlot, but red seats don't really work with those colours.

Good luck finding the right one for you!
