Swapped my gear knob last night and when pulling off the old knob my arm flew up and I thwacked against the mirror.
Got in the car this morning and noticed this :!: :cry:

ooops!
That's what happens when you bang your knob on the windscreen.
hope it all gets sorted :(

Infuriating when you do it yourself and can’t blame anyone else. You obviously don’t know your own strength. Is the hand OK? Mind you flesh heals but damage to the car is much more serious.

Bloody hell! Bad luck there, but you'll get a nice shiny new one now, and if yours is stone chipped anywhere near as bad as mine was, you'll actually be able to see on a sunny day now! Just make sure you request a genuine one when you speak to your insurance/the windscreen company they put you through to, or you'll get a pattern one.

Noticed a spate of these windowscreen cracks on the forums lately, must be something in the air.

Hard luck there Marlon, will be an expensive gear knob swap, I guess most insurance windscreen claims are £75 excess :( :thumbsdown:

That’s unlucky Colin, I remember from my smartcar days a guy did the same thing & gave himself a black eye! :o

Elbow still sore from the impact :(
Booked Autoglass earliest appointment 25th May. Checked insurance policy and access is £190 :headbang: :cry:

Pulling off your old knob in the car is a bit anti-social Colin.... I just checked my insurance excess in case I'm tempted to have a fiddle in public with mine - £150! :o

Are you absolutely sure it's £190?! That's the highest windscreen excess I've ever seen by a long way! Who's the insurer?

[ref=#006600]Marlon[/ref], ouch... just ouch!
Isn’t windscreen cover separate? What’s the point of £190 excess on a window?!?! :x

Yeah its stated in my policy - checked before I claimed.
I'm with LV insurance, although to be fair they paid out £2,500 on a claim back in 2016 and my premiums have stayed the same since (well only going up by £5 per year) The garage they recommended did an excellent job too, so swings and roundabouts I guess.

Well, that just adds insult to injury! Like you say though, swings and roundabouts, you get what you pay for, etc. Hope they're replacing with dealer glass to lessen the blow! (you need to insist on this, they will always fit windscreen company glass unless you kick up a fuss - but I'm sure you already know that :thumbsup: )

I think it’s the seal more than the glass which needs to be oem, the pattern replacement doesn’t seem up to the job :?
