The norm seems to be that people buy donor lights from ebay for £50 or so, then butcher them to get the bits out. Only way I think ...

I have been watchin on ebay for about 4 months now and the cheapest white lens light I have seen went for £120.... for 1 side..
there is one on now
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Z4-Headlight-NS-LHS-XENON-Fully-working-lugs-intact-/170517306877?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b39f9dfd#ht_500wt_896

or these LHD versions
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Set-BMW-E85-Z4-02-07-LHD-european-headlamps-headlights-/370299386951?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5637903c47#ht_532wt_879

An orange one went for £70, advertised as a RHD but the part number was for the LHD version, It came back on again within a week from the new buyer again not mentioning it was a LHD version.
Handing is not an issue for the lenses, but you can see how much they are going for...

There is a set here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=20448

£100 for the set - bargain !

thanks for all the welcomes.

I will be sharing the completed mods on here soon, such as.....
well you will have to wait and see

Question:

When you cut along the lens and black backing, did you cut all the way around or were you able to pull the lens off after a certain amount was loose? I am to the point of cutting my lights and wanted some insight on how you did it. thanks

prise apart gently as you go, If you can see a gap through to the inside you have cut deep enough and time to move further along the casing.

Gookah,

thanks for the advice got the lights open.

As far as wiring the Lumenux kit, I would like to run them as DRL's and have the AE's on by themselves as you do, how did you go about wiring these into your existing lights to accomplish that?

I just removed the original bulb (lamp) from the sidelight and tapped into the sidelight circuit inside the headlamp so not DRL as such cos you still have to switch sidelights on (rears lights come on as well)

I see, very smart modding. I see since your original post your have switched to clear indicator lens. How did you go about making the amber turn signals less noticeable?

I know CJ and others have used tint and translucent spray...

I didnt use anything on the orange globe that surrounds each lamp (bulb) but wish I had, still alot better with clear lenses though.

Just curious, when routing the wiring above the head lamps, did you drill any holes to route them?

nope all done internally and plenty of room

Most people use silicone, other have used a stronger glue (liquid nails) and then sealed with silicone as well. I would just silicone though, so if needed you could get back inside the light. Just make sure to let it cure for 24 hrs.

Gookah,

I can't find a 12V source for the AE's unless I use the main headlight wires....and then the AE's can not be on without the headlights....My parking light and turn signal lights only have 5.5V going to them???? HELP ME :headbang:

My sidelights were 12v...... do you have a fault on that circuit?
I just wired mine in to the sidelight circuit and removed the lamp (bulb) as it looked better without. Worked perfectly, and were switched on as sidelights, and also stayed on with headlights.

I would check the headlamp wiring connectors for corrosion on the pins.

I think I have figured it out...in the US we don't have the sidelight bulb in the high beam housing. Our turn signals serve as our sidelights.....and I think those bulbs only get 5.5 V to them.....So I think I might have to use the fog light harness to avoid running a wire from inside the cabin. Unless anyone else has an idea on what to do. :headbang:
