Hello everyone! Well I started my car search a little while ago and had it narrowed down to a Z4, a Boxster, and a TT. Not only have I completely become obsessed with the Z4 I have become obsessed with this forum. I finally got to drive a z4 today and I loved it. It's a 2003 2.5L 5 speed with 64,000 miles. It is a good looking car, a few paint chips here and there and could use a good cleaning, but I loved it. It does have the airbag light on all the time which concerns me. He wants $11,900 usd for it and I don't know that it is worth that. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for the help! :)

I'd avoid that from the off, reasons:

Bad wheels, you ideally want to find one with 18's, whether elipsodes or style 108's
Airbag light can be a PITA to fix

I'd rather try to find a 3.0, with black interior (unless you really like the cream/wood).

Hi rc412,

Welcome to the Forum. There are quite a few US members who I'm sure will be able to advise and comment. Interesting that you loved the Zed from the first drive. It took me time to get used to and make the most of the Zed and it's capabilities. I found the steering and ride 'different' to other cars I had owned and driven including an MX5. Love it now though and wouldn't part with it. I've had a 2 litre 4 cylinder which was quite capable and the 3.0si 6 cylinder which i have now and is terrific.

I'm not certain about the US market and the models that are available. Certainly there will be differences in taste with interiors. There are 6 speed gearboxes in the UK (earlier Zeds had 5 speed boxes) and extras and specifications become important to buyers here as do wheels and any modifications done. You'll pick all this up on the Forum. Most will comment that you might as well go for a 3.0 litre Zed if you are in the market and some will say that there isn't much real world difference between the 2.5 and the 3.0 litre on the road. I believe there are slightly different power output in the US engines so I'll leave that to your US brethren to clear up. Neither can I comment on the price being asked in the US - apologies!
Do take a look at the excellent 'What to Look for guide' on the forum as it answers many questions and gives lots of information.
Best wishes with your hunt for the right Zed!

Hi Rc412,

I picked my 3.0 6 speed up for 10,500 usd and it had the chronic air bag light on.
BMW at least in Canada is honouring a warranty for the passenger seat occupancy mat (ask me how I know)that is an inherent problem on the pre facelift(03-06) cars as far as I know
The warranty is good for 10 years from the build date so if you find an 04 with the AB light on then it could be fixed for free. The cost to replace is around 2 k if done out of warranty.
Good luck with your search, IMO having driven both the 2.5 and the 3.0 I could not feel a difference performance wise seat of the pants. The exhaust note was much nicer on the 3.0 and ultimately I was going to supercharge the car I bought so I went for the 3.0

Thanks guys! All the info is definitely appreciated. I might pick that one up if I can get him down on his price a bit as these are quite hard to find around here. I actually quite like the cream interior (it just needs a good cleaning) and don't much care about a 2.5 vs 3.0. I went to a dealership and had them run the vin to see if the airbag light was under warranty and it unfortunately is not. Though it did have a complete service history from new to now at a local dealer. Hopefully I can find another nearby that I can see! Again thanks for the help!
