Febi do the hydraulic fluid, just look up on ebay.
Just search youtube few vids out there with folks doing roof leak repairs.

The hydraulic lines in the rear part of the roof shell has probably broken off (interesting that these ones broke before the electrical wiring). In my opinion, after I've tried to fix the electrical wiring multiple times, is that all solutions apart from a new harness are just a way to avoid the inevitable.

There are some solutions:
- Go to the BMW stealership and ask them to fix your roof. In my country, after paying 50$ for a diagnosis, BMW told me they do not do such a maintenance job since the roof is completly broken, but they can help me with a full new roof (16k$) + labour, kinda funny if you think that I fixed it.
- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=122363 - replace the entire harness, it's not a hard job, it just takes a lot of time - this will cost you around 800$
- https://www.cabriolet-roof-hoses.com/bmw/bmw-e89-z4-roadster-hydraulic-cabriolet-roof-hoses - replace the hoses that have broken off with new ones (keep in mind you need to buy 2 or 3 kits depending on where your lines broke) - this will cost you around 200$ and you also need to fix the electrical wiring by soldering a new piece of wire, I am 80% sure that the one you have installed it's gonna break soon as well if it's not broken already
- there is also another option on the website above to buy couplers, thus changing only the damaged part, I don't know how effective it is.

Keep in mind you will probably need to change the two sensors at the kinematics box as well as they are also a common failure point.

Funny how you often see these hydraulic companies on trading estates....when you don't need them.

louisodwyer, for the problem you have, cabriolet roof hoses are perfect for you, you can either buy the entire damaged hose (takes time to unmount the roof and the carpet from the trunk and route the new line) or you can buy some hydraulic line couplers (from the same website). Since you said you are good at "I'm a great believer in Bricolage/DYI" I would do what flybobbie suggested :D
