Hello - Z4M Coupe in Alpine White

Picked up a nice 2008 Z4M Coupe in Alpine White for Xmas. Sent it straight off for Insp 2, valve clearances and a touch up before taking delivery early next week. After some initial buyers guilt I'm pretty excited having looked at them longingly for a few years.

Loved my e46 M3 SMG even though I initially wanted a manual. Spent a fortune on AP, Supersprint, Evolve, CSLs on that one and trying hard not to start down the same path with this. Really looking forward to another S54.

It will join an Audi RS4(B5), Porsche Cayman S (987) and Lotus Elise (S1).

Modifications are likely to be the following:

Short shift kit.
Clutch delay valve / lock valve delete
Style 359 wheels

I'm going to try to stay away from brakes, engine, suspension upgrades for now. Hopefully it already feels a little more fast and focused than the e46.

Cheers!

Ha, it's not even here yet. I'm hoping to collect on Wednesday evening.

Was hoping the ad was still up to link to but it's not, I'll post some pics up later in the week. It's got a black roof and black wheels, black leather, nav. 86k.

The mileage nearly put me off, but it's been well looked after apparently. 65k miles done in the first 2 years, FSH and only 3rd owner. I haven't actually seen it in person yet, but a clients high end garage gave it the thumbs up and has given it what it needed to get it up to their high standards.

Thanks for the welcome everybody :)

Welcome OP.

Alpine White M Coupe is pretty rare - Forum Member Taz posted UK Spec production numbers some time ago and based on that you have 1 of only 18! Congratulations!

Would be interested to hear how you feel it compares the an E46 M3.

Oh, and in case nobody has mentioned it, would love to see some photos!!

Hi and welcome.

If you are going to buy an ///M coupe, then Alpine White is the colour to have

It is the wrong place to be though if you don't want to start modding

Thanks Mr. Tidy.

It was the rarity of the Alpine White combined with black roof that finally made me jump.

I loved my M3 but kind of wished I'd left it standard. The 19's with coilovers made it far too twitchy for our roads and although the SMG felt great pushing up through the gears, it provoked licence loosing behaviour far too often! The full SS exhaust also attracted too much attention for my liking.

I'm really looking forward to an S54 with a clutch. a bit apprehensive about the feel of the CDV but looks easy enough to sort.

But (in my dreams!) I wouldn't want an S54 with anything else!

I know people keep going on about the CDV, but I am on BMW No.5 now and I don't know if any had one or didn't!

They have all worked OK for me!

Thanks again for the welcome, all. Seems a very friendly forum!

Here's the ad, thought it had gone.

It's on the boat and on its way. May even be able to collect tomorrow if work presents an opportunity. Can't wait now!

I don't like black wheels either, on anything. Still not sure what I'm going to do with them. If they were black from the factory then I'll take them off, stash, and replace with these - http://www.cmwheels.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=237&product_id=912 which are also like mustard to most! Part of me just wants to buy CSL reps to redeem myself for spending stupid money on real ones for the M3... if that makes any sense!

I'm in the Channel Islands. Don't usually post online at all so that's enough info for now :)

Welcome OP! Car sounds awesome.

Very interested to hear more about your 987 S. Any bore issues or IMS? Would jump on one tomorrow if the odds are favorable.

Hi and welcome. What a fabulous looking car ! I love the black/white theme and the black/carbon interior. The tail pipes look shocking though and seriously need some tlc !

The Cayman is an incredible package. Razor sharp handling and wonderfully characteristic engine, excellent gearbox feel, excellent brakes and very comfortable to sit in. Ours is on 95k miles with no IMS issues, we picked it up cheapish and spent £3k bringing it up to scratch. It totally explains what Porsche people harp on about and makes me want a 997 GT3... or GT2... or Turbo, one day.

I would say that it's too lively for a daily, partly because it's so good and just makes you want to play, it's hardly spacious inside either and some of the switchgear is surprisingly poor quality.

I'm fully prepared for the Z to be outclassed by the Porsche in many ways, I hope it's not too uncomfortable, but I'm buying for the manual S54 and rear quarter view anyway!
